Chapter 6

There was a document tucked at the bottom of the attic box.

A diagnosis certificate.

With trembling fingers, Ethan unfolded it.

The emotions he had suppressed for so long finally erupted like a dam bursting-his chest heaving as hot tears streamed down his face.

The certificate was simple, factual-yet devastating.

Injury Report:

Over 60 external stitches.

Cause: Deep lacerations sustained from being dragged across exposed metal during a traffic

collision.

Treatment: Emergency hospitalization, 15-day in-patient care.

As Ethan stared at the document, the missing memories came rushing back like a flood.

That day…

That terrible accident when he was fifteen.

It wasn’t Sabrina who had saved him.

It was Claire.

She had thrown herself at him, shielding him from the oncoming truck with her own body. She was the one who had been dragged nearly ten meters, shredded by metal.

No wonder… when he woke up in the hospital, he had been clutching a rainbow-colored daisy.

He had always wondered why that flower mattered so much. Why he’d clung to it without understanding why.

Now he knew.

It was a gift from the girl who nearly died for him.

The one he had discarded like trash.

‘No… you can’t leave me like this…” Ethan whispered hoarsely, clutching the papers against his

chest.

Everything had been a lie.

All these years, he believed it was Sabrina who saved him.

All these years, he repaid Claire’s love and sacrifice with cruelty.

Downstairs, the housekeeper heard the noise and came up quickly.

“Young Master, are you alright?”

Ethan didn’t answer right away.

The housekeeper glanced around and spotted the open box. His expression changed.

“I’m sorry,” he said, lowering his head. “Miss Young asked me to clean out the villa. I must’ve

overlooked this one.”

Ethan’s head snapped up.

“What did you say?”

The housekeeper looked startled but repeated himself.

“Miss Young ordered us to remove everything of Miss Foster’s. I… I must have missed this by accident.”

Ethan’s eyes darkened. He clenched his jaw until he tasted blood.

Without another word, he turned and bolted out of the house.

He arrived at the Linwood family banquet hall just as the party was in full swing. Sabrina was surrounded by people, tipsy and basking in the praise of well-wishers congratulating her on the upcoming wedding.

But Ethan didn’t wait.

He stormed through the crowd and marched straight to her.

‘Sabrina! Who gave you the right to throw away Claire’s things?!”

The room fell silent.

Sabrina blinked, dazed. “What’s with you, Ethan? Why are you bringing up that unlucky woman ɔn such a joyous day?”

‘I asked you a question!” Ethan shouted, fury in his voice. “Who told you to touch her things?”

‘Claire?” Sabrina scoffed. “She’s just a servant the Linwood family raised. What right did she have to live in a villa like that? I’ve already decided to gift it to my parents. They’ll move in after he wedding. We’ll need help once we start a family.”

She smiled proudly, completely oblivious to Ethan’s expression.

But his voice dropped, cold and sharp.

‘Let me ask you again. Who allowed you to erase her?”

Sabrina’s smile finally faltered.

‘What’s wrong with you?” she snapped. “Are you seriously starting a fight with me… over her? Don’t forget who saved you all those years ago!”

‘Saved me?” Ethan stepped closer, eyes locked onto hers. “Then look me in the eye-go ahead, and say it again.”

Sabrina’s expression wavered.

Before she could respond, another voice rang out across the room.

t was Mr. Linwood.

‘Enough!”

Everyone turned as he walked forward, his face dark with fury.

“Who was the one who broke off the engagement?” he said sternly. “Who pushed Claire out the door? And now you want to change your mind?”

“You brought this humiliation on yourself. I told you not to make a mess again!”

Mr. Linwood was livid.

Ethan, for once, had no retort.

Because in that moment, he realized-

He had broken more than just a promise.

He had shattered the heart of the one person who had loved him most… and now, she was gone.
