Chapter 4
Logan and the others stood frozen, their faces plastered with shock. Clearly, they hadn’t expected Grandma Ruth to show up unannounced.
Ever since my mother passed away, Grandma had moved to another city, leaving the Harrington estate and company in Logan’s hands. She had always stayed out of the family drama.
In my previous life, she was the one who brought me back into the family, but I’d chosen to endure everything in silence, letting her believe I was living well.
When Nadia spread lies about my personal life, Grandma had tried to help, but by then, I was too broken, too depressed.
I pushed her away and missed the chance to stand by her.
Now, seeing her again, my throat tightened.
Tears stung my eyes as I choked out, “Grandma…”
Her weathered hand, marked with deep wrinkles, reached up to gently touch my cheek. Her voice was filled with
regret.
“Jessica, it’s my fault. On such an important day, I wasn’t here to stand by you.”
Logan’s jaw dropped so wide you could’ve fit an egg in it.
“Mom… Why didn’t you tell us you were coming?”
Grandma slammed her cane against the ground with a crack, the force of it reverberating through the room.
“I worked so hard to find my granddaughter, and this is how you treat her?!”
Her hand shot out, pointing directly at Logan.
Her voice rose in fury.
“I wouldn’t have known a thing if I hadn’t watched the live stream! How dare you!”
“You’re nothing more than a freeloader in this family! Since when do you get to boss Jessica around?”
The paparazzi, who had just been scolded by Logan moments earlier, instantly perked up. Cameras clicked furiously as they turned their lenses on him.
“Breaking news! Harrington CEO turns out to be a son–in–law, not the heir!”
“Shocking twist! The drama behind the richest family in San Francisco!”
Sensational headlines flooded the live stream chat as Logan’s face turned a mottled mix of red and white.

Panicked, he grabbed Ethan and pushed him forward like a human shield.
“All of you, get out! Or I’ll sue you for violating my privacy!”
Just minutes ago, Nadia had been brimming with confidence, but now she was visibly trembling. She clung to Grandma’s sleeve, her voice trembling.
“Grandma, please… Let’s not make this worse. The Harrington family’s reputation is on the line.“.
Grandma yanked her arm away, her glare icy.
“Don’t call me Grandma! I have only one true granddaughter, and that’s Jessica. If anyone’s embarrassing this family, it’s you!”
A daring reporter shouted out, “Wait–so Ethan isn’t your grandson?”
Grandma’s fury boiled over.
“He’s just Logan’s son from his first marriage! Logan only became part of this family when he married my daughter!”
Her voice grew sharper.
“I should’ve never let that man into this house. He’s nothing but a leech!”
The courtyard erupted into chaos.
The live stream chat was flooded with comments like:
“OMG! This is WILD!”
“Biggest plot twist of the year–Logan’s not even a real Harrington!”
“Somebody hand me popcorn. This is better than a movie!”
Ethan’s face was a stormy gray as he grabbed Logan and Nadia by the arms, dragging them toward the mansion.
Grandma held onto my hand firmly, following them inside.
The chandelier–lit foyer gleamed as we entered.
Once inside, Grandma raised her cane and brought it down on the marble floor with a thunderous crack.
“Logan! Get on your knees!”
Logan flinched at the sound, but he stiffened his neck, trying to hold his ground.
“Mom, what are you doing? I’m the CEO of Harrington Enterprises!”
“CEO? You’re nothing without this family!”

Grandma’s voice thundered through the room.
“You were a broke nobody when we took pity on you. Do you think you’d have anything today if it weren’t for the
Harringtons?”
Logan opened his mouth to argue, but Grandma cut him off.
“Don’t forget,” she snarled, “when my daughter passed, I told you: keep your head down, don’t cause trouble, and when I’m gone, the company will be yours.”
“But as of today, the shares and voting power still belong to me. You’re nothing more than a puppet!”
Logan’s defiance faltered, but he still refused to kneel.
Seeing this, Grandma grabbed an antique vase off the nearby table and.hurled it at him.
It smashed into pieces at his feet, shards flying everywhere.
“I won’t repeat myself!” she shouted, her voice shaking with rage.
“Get. On. Your. Knees!”
