Chapter 8
The lawyer’s words plunged the entire banquet into chaos.
“What’s happening? I thought that the Lloyds were hosting this banquet to announce the future heirs of Lloyd Corporation?”
“Where did that lawyer come from? Is he speaking the truth? Julie wants to divorce Samuel?”
“I’m 80% sure that Julie doesn’t want to give the Lloyds’ assets to her adopted children because they’re not biologically related to her. That’s why she came up with such a scheme. She’s forcing Samuel to choose her or the children by causing a scene in front of everyone!”
“I bet she only resorted to this because they couldn’t come to an agreement privately. Humiliating herself is better than losing her wealth, after all.”
The guests discussed what they had just learned among themselves, sharing their thoughts and opinions. Meanwhile, the reporters were acting as if they had just been injected with stimulants. They raised their cameras and took countless photos of Samuel.
“Mr. Lloyd, are you and Julie going to get a divorce?”
“Are you and Julie divorcing because of the inheritance issue, Mr. Lloyd?”
“Mr. Lloyd, both you and your wife are so young. Why didn’t you try conceiving? Why did you choose to adopt instead?”
Countless microphones were shoved in Samuel’s face as the reporters’ questions turned more and more tricky.
One of the reporters was even bold enough to ask Samuel directly, “Mr. Lloyd, were you and your wife unable to conceive because you failed to perform during a crucial moment?”
Samuel’s face darkened. He glared at the reporter fiercely, looking as if he wanted to tear him
to pieces. However, Samuel knew now wasn’t the time to get into a scuffle with the reporters. He needed to get the situation back under his control first and foremost.
He inhaled deeply before bellowing, “Silence!”
Everyone present at the banquet felt as if they had been struck by lightning. They quieted down and turned their gazes to Samuel, waiting for his answer.
Samuel accepted a microphone from one of his subordinates. His face was hardened when he declared, “Firstly, I will never divorce Julie! She is the only woman I’ll ever love in my life. She’s my wife, and only she is worthy of being my wife.
“We will never get a divorce, so any news of us separating is just rumors! I can promise everyone here that my marriage to Julie will only end with one of us becoming widowed. We will never divorce!”
His words turned the atmosphere in the banquet hall lively again.
“It’s true that Mr. Lloyd is Wicasset’s number one wife-lover. His speech was quite impressive.
“No wonder Julie’s daring enough to throw a tantrum like this. She knows that her husband spoils her.”
“I’m so envious of Julie. If my husband doted on me half as much as Mr. Lloyd dotes on Julie, I would probably be smiling even in my sleep.”
Among the countless voices of envy, the reporters’ questions seemed especially harsh. “Since you and Julie aren’t getting a divorce, why isn’t she present at tonight’s banquet?”
“Who’s the woman next to you? Why does she look so similar to your adopted daughter? What is your relationship with her?”
“If we take a closer look, your adopted son looks just like you. Could he be your illegitimate child? Please answer me honestly!”
