Chapter 8
As Christopher had expected, Wendy had decided to forgive him, but she no longer looked at him as affectionately like she used to.
At that time, Christopher had felt miserable and conflicted. He had been torn between whether to be honest with her or to keep things going as usual.
His friends had noticed his unusual acts, so they laughed at him. “The Gardners‘ heir is actually such a fool for love.”
Their words pierced through his heart, tormenting him and leaving him in agony.
His father’s advice when he was still a child kept ringing in his ears. “We don’t need a timid heir, and we definitely don’t want a hopeless romantic as the heir!
“You can’t get feelings involved in the business world. It’ll become your weakness, and people will use it against you!”
In the end, Christopher had decided to keep things going as usual. Making Evelyn pregnant had been his first step. However, he regretted it.
“No…” he gradually muttered that word.
Christopher felt as if he had been drained completely, and he was left drowning in frustration and dejection.
He had failed to meet his father’s expectations. Maybe in his whole life, he could never be that cruel and decisive. At this moment, he wanted nothing but Wendy.
As soon as the answer escaped his lips, he let out a long sigh in relief. And he waited for a response from Tommy.
Tommy didn’t seem to expect that from Christopher, so he was slightly speechless.
After a brief moment, Tommy sighed. “I can send you the address, but you have to promise me that you’ll respect Wen, no matter what her decision is. I just don’t want my daughter to have any regrets.”
Christopher immediately pulled himself together again.
He rose to his feet and kicked away the cigarette butts scattering on the floor. “Okay, I’m confident that Wen will choose me. Thank you, Mr. Sullivan.”
Christopher was consumed by joy and excitement. He looked out of the window at the lawn and felt hopeful.
He couldn’t have had the chance to redo it if the old one hadn’t been ruined. It was just a lawn.
He would plant anything Wendy liked in the future.
If Wendy didn’t want the child, he would bring Evelyn for an abortion, and he would go for a vasectomy himself. If she wanted the child, he would draft an agreement to leave all his assets to her and the child as a form of assurance.
Just then, the gray sky finally turned bright again. The gloominess in Christopher seemed to fade away too.
If he had acknowledged his true feelings earlier, he and Wendy wouldn’t have gone through so many hiccups.
Soon, Tommy sent him the hotel location. It was a property owned by the Howells.
The smile on Christopher’s face froze. Before he could get into the wedding car, Evelyn called him and said, “Christopher, when will the wedding end? I’ll wait for you at the examination department. Is that fine? You promised to come with me.”
She spoke sweetly like she always did, but Christopher’s response wasn’t what she had expected. “I’ll have my assistant go with you. Don’t bother me today!”
As soon as he finished speaking, he wanted to end the call.
Evelyn panicked and broke down in tears. “Christopher, what’s wrong with you? Is it because Wendy is mad at me again? “It’s all my fault. I can go to the wedding venue and apologize to her. I’ll hail a cab and go there right away!
“If I had known this earlier, I wouldn’t have called you when she pushed me. Maybe Wendy would feel better if I just fell straight down. No… I shouldn’t have come back. I should’ve listened to Wendy and stayed abroad to give birth there.
“I was the reason why the two of you fought. I’ve affected your relationship.”
It would’ve been better if Evelyn hadn’t brought all that up. As Christopher recalled
everything that had happened the other day, he flew into a rage. He must’ve been out of his
mind to believe Evelyn when she said Wendy was a vicious woman.
