“What the hell are you? This is my house! Who the hell do you think you are, stopping me from going in?”
Johnathan’s aunt was shrieking, completely stripped of the elegance she once wore like armor. Now, she looked more like a street shrew than a high–society woman.
Her debts had piled up higher and higher, far beyond what she could repay.
She had come here today to ask Johnathan for leniency–but instead, she’d been blocked at the door by none other than Sierra.
“Your house?”
Sierra shot her a mocking glance.
“Is this place under your name? Does this mountain have anything to do with you? As for who I am, 1 believe Professor Yaager made that very clear last time. You’d better leave–before I lose my patience.”
Johnathan’s aunt was livid. She couldn’t believe a mere girl like Sierra dared speak to her that way.
She tried to force her way in but was stopped by the bodyguards.
“How dare you! You’ve got a lot of nerve keeping me out. You ungrateful traitors–I’ll have every last one of you fired!”
Sierra rolled her eyes at the screaming. Without another word, she ordered them to throw the woman out.
Once that was handled, Sierra carefully returned to the house.
Thankfully, the place was well soundproofed. Johnathan hadn’t been woken up.
He’d only slept for maybe five hours over the past few days. Now that he finally had time to rest, she wanted him to sleep a little longer.
Seeing that he was still asleep, Sierra quietly shut the door behind her.
The butler had brought over a pile of tasks–things Johnathan was supposed to handle himself. But Sierra took over.
She wanted to try doing them herself, to lighten Johnathan’s load however she could.
She handled everything she was able to, leaving only the final decisions to Johnathan.
The biggest matters were the arrangements for Wayne’s funeral, and the guest list–who should be formally invited. Sierra didn’t know all the names, but she recognized quite a few on the list.
It was a testament to how powerful the Wynn family was in the country.
Johnathan woke up in the late afternoon feeling much more refreshed. He’d braced himself for a mountain of work, but to his surprise, Sierra had already taken care of all the small stuff.
“I wasn’t sure I did it right. Look it over again.”

Johnathan felt a twinge of guilt. They were supposed to enjoy a relaxing New Year together, but everything had unraveled since New Year’s Eve. Not only had he been too busy, but Sierra had been caught up in the
chaos too.
Hearing that, Sierra laced her fingers through his, lifted their joined hands, and gave their rings a playful shake.
“Professor Yaager, did you forget we’re a team now? If you say something like that again, you’re getting punished.”
She was joking on purpose–to cheer him up.
Ever since Wayne passed away, Johnathan had been emotionally withdrawn. No one else noticed, but Sierra knew how deeply he was hurting.
Wayne had been the one warm presence in his life after Wendy died–the most important person in his teenage years.
Of course Johnathan understood Sierra’s intentions. He gave her a soft smile.
“Okay. Next time I slip up, you punish me.”
For a rare moment, the two of them enjoyed some closeness.
Then, the day of Wayne’s funeral arrived. Both Johnathan and Sierra dressed in black mourning clothes.
As the head of the Wynn family, Johnathan was responsible for receiving guests. Sierra, as his wife, stayed by his side.
The people who came today were all high–ranking elites–people you’d normally only see on television.
Sierra didn’t show a flicker of surprise. She stood calmly beside Johnathan, undisturbed by praise or slander.
Though the guests spoke mostly to Johnathan, their gazes kept drifting to Sierra.
Even though their wedding had been a quiet one, attended only by close family, people of their rank knew exactly what their relationship was.
Shane came too, arriving with Jade.
Before they got out of the car, Jade was still warning him.
“Today’s not the time to make trouble.”
Shane just rolled his eyes.
He hadn’t seen Sierra in a while. The moment he did, the first thing he noticed was that she’d lost weight. Clearly, Johnathan didn’t know how to take care of her.

Seeing her standing quietly beside Johnathan, Shane pressed his lips together.
He watched for a while before walking over.
When Sierra saw him, her expression didn’t change.
She’d seen Jade’s name on the guest list–but she hadn’t expected Shane to come along.
