Chapter 1
At thirty-six weeks pregnant, I took Sarah Brooks-my husband’s foster sister who had come from our hometown to care for me-shopping for her a wedding
gift.
But the card reader couldn’t even process a $20,000 transaction. My million-dollar black card only showed a balance of just $37.23.
Sarah immediately frowned and rebuked me: “Cecilia Smith, you’re way too reckless with money! How could my brother possibly afford your spending sprees?
My husband, Arnold Brooks, didn’t care about the truth and just accused me of being mean to Sarah.
“You’ve always had it out for Sarah, and now you won’t even buy her a wedding gift? You hurt our family!”
In my previous life, no one believed me and everyone was blaming me. The heated argument sent me into emotional distress, triggering premature labor.
At the hospital, Arnold was still being manipulated by Sarah’s lies, insisted on no C-section. In the end, the baby’s umbilical cord wrapped around its neck-we both died.
When I opened my eyes again, I was back at the moment at the moment the card reader declined my payment.
Sarah was frowning at me with disappointment written all over her face: “Cecilia, you spend way too much money! Arnold can’t afford to pay for all your shopping!”
I stared at that innocent face of hers and suddenly smiled.
This time, I was going to make her cough up every penny of that $600,000 she’d swallowed-with interest.
“Everyone’s watching, Cecilia! Just try a different card!”
Seeing my lack of response, Sarah’s voice shot up an octave as she snapped at me: “What exactly are you trying to pull here?”
I’ve already picked out my wedding gift and now you won’t pay? Are you deliberately trying to humiliate me?”
She choked back tears: “I’ve been taking care of you around the clock, even hand-washing your underwear, and you can’t spare $20,000 for me?”
The sales associates immediately shot me looks of disdain.
‘Oh, she looks rich, but actually she’s totally cheap.”
I know, right? Her husband’s sister is so sweet, and she won’t even pay for wedding stuff? That’s so stingy!”
Another salesperson chimed in, looking me up and down as if I were some kind of bitch.
With someone backing her up, Sarah cried harder.
This money is pocket change to you. I just want a decent wedding-you promised me!”
She grew more distraught, eventually covering her face and sobbing dramatically, and even threatened to call Arnold to come settle this.
n my previous life, I had frantically tried to stop her from calling my husband, terrified that Arnold would think I was treating her badly.
Also, I was consumed with fear about the money that had vanished from my account.
But now, I watched her performance with calm.
Why should I feel guilty?
“Every dollar in there was from me pulling all-nighters on projects and business meetings that ruined my stomach-all before I got pregnant!””
Sarah had been eyeing this card for ages, and Arnold and she had already known about the millions that vanished from it, even the $600,000 debt!
It was all just a facade, all that talk about buying me supplements and pregnancy essentials!
I only discovered the truth moments before I died in my previous life.
Chapter 1
She’d used my card to buy herself a multi-million-dollar wedding gift, even maxing out the credit limit and leaving me $600,000 in debt!
And the guy she was marrying was that local businessman who used to kiss up to me.
While waiting for Arnold to arrive, 1 quickly sent a text to my assistant.
“Pull all transaction records for my Black Card from the past year. Every single purchase.”
Just as I received the reply, I saw Arnold striding over, his eyes flitting between Sarah and me.
The moment Sarah spotted him, tears immediately welled up in her eyes. “Arnold, I didn’t mean to disturb your work, but Cecilia promised to buy my wedding gifts and now she’s pretending to be broke and won’t pay!”
A sales associate chimed in: “Your wife’s card was declined, and she’s shouting at your sister!”
Arnold’s expression darkened, his words dripping with annoyance.
“Cecilia, what is wrong with you now? Sarah came all this way to take care of you, and you’re a millionaire who can’t spare a few thousand for wedding
expenses?”
Suddenly, his words were cut off as he took a phone call.
After hanging up in a rush, Arnold’s face turned ashen, his finger practically jabbing at my nose.
“Are you insane? The card is $600,000 overdrawn!”
Watching his furious outburst, I suddenly found it totally ridiculous.
In my previous life, I’d been intimidated by exactly this display, stammering through my explanations.
But now, I met his gaze directly. “I didn’t spend that money.”
“You’re accusing me without even asking! Your foster sister has been using this card for three months, claiming she was buying supplements for me. Who knows what she actually did with it?”
Arnold’s voice shot up several decibels, drawing more onlookers to our spectacle.
Sarah stays home taking care of you every day-she’s so innocent and sheltered! What could she possibly spend your money on? Instead, you’re turning around and framing her. I never knew you were this that mean person!”
He pulled out his phone and tapped away furiously.
Then he shoved the screen in my face. “Look carefully! The transaction records show this money was spent at baby stores and supermarkets-if it wasn’t for your stuff, then whose? Sarah won’t even buy herself a decent clothe!”
Watching those carefully doctored transaction records, I suddenly understood why I’d been speechless in my previous life.
Sarah had prepared everything meticulously-even the fake receipts were flawless.
Seeing my shocked expression, they exchanged triumphant smiles.
“Cecilia, I won’t hold this $600,000 against you, but you absolutely must provide Sarah with her complete wedding gift.”
