Chapter 9
After sending a message to Maya, Owen stared at the screen for a long time, but he never received a reply.
Maya had never gone so long without replying to his messages.
In the past, whenever he casually posted a sentence, Maya would reply seriously, and she would actively share her daily life with him every
day.
Ever since Jessica returned to her home country, Maya hasn’t actively
reached out to her for a long time.
Remembering what Maya said last night, a wave of inexplicable unease rose in his heart, always feeling that something bad was going to happen.
A terrible thought crossed his mind.
Maya really wanted to leave him.
However, soon this thought was forcibly suppressed by him.
Maya liked him so much, how could she possibly leave?
In every previous argument and conflict, no matter how much Maya was wronged, she would always compromise and seek reconciliation in the end.
And he just stood at a high position, waiting for Maya to bow down
voluntarily.
This time is no exception.
Thinking of this, a weight lifted off Owen’s heart.
In a few hours, he was going to propose to Jessica.
The messages in the group chat kept popping up, all excited for the upcoming proposal.
“Owen, don’t be nervous, you and Jessica have been together for so many years, the proposal will definitely be successful!”
“Yes, it can be said that the clouds have finally parted to reveal the moon. Both of you have been waiting for each other for so many years, and everyone knows how much you love each other. It’s about to have
a conclusion soon.”
“Owen, since you have just terminated the contract with that little stand-in, once the proposal is successful, cut off all contact with her completely. Otherwise, Jessica will not be happy. If she doesn’t agree, just block her directly, so she can never find you again!”
Looking at the screen full of blessings, Owen’s heart somehow became
a mess.
Just then, a pair of hands wrapped around his waist from behind, the tone carrying a post-coital haze.
“Owen, what were you looking at?”
Jessica leaned against his back, covered in small and large red marks,
the traces left by him just now.
Owen’s body stiffened slightly, and he instinctively put away his phone.
“Nothing.”
Jessica hummed. She had already learned about his proposal plan from a mutual friend, so she just thought his awkward reaction was meant to surprise her.
She pretended to be shy and tugged at his sleeve, hinting slightly as she spoke.
“It’s all your fault. You had to keep bothering me until now. It would have been fine at other times, but if something else happens later… What am I going to do if someone sees these marks on me?”
She hugged even tighter.
“Owen, you said if we have children in the future, will our baby look more like you or more like me? But no matter who they look like, they will definitely be good-looking.”
“I saw a wedding dress yesterday. I think I would look very nice in it. What do you think?”
Listening to Jessica chatter on, Owen was consistently uninterested.
The group of brothers had a voice message at this time, and he turned to go out to answer the phone. Just as he reached the door, he heard Jessica also answering a phone call.

Through the external speaker, he heard that it was a man’s voice.
“Sister, I heard that Owen is going to propose to you today. Are you really planning to say yes to him? What should I do then? That old man is older than me, and has better physical strength than me.”
Owen froze for a moment, the sound he had heard before in the taunting voice message Jessica had sent him.
Jessica’s tone was indulgent: “Of course not, I also want to play for a few more years. But my sister is getting older after all, and she has been competing with him for so many years. It’s not good to keep him hanging, she has to marry him eventually.”
“And he was rich, powerful, and decent-looking, making him the best candidate for marriage. Many despicable people were eager to climb into his bed. Just like that Maya who was always by his side, knowing that he still had feelings for me…”
Owen deliberately made some noise.
Jessica’s voice abruptly stopped, hastily saying to the person on the other end of the phone, “We’ll talk next time, I have to hang up now. I’ll come see you when I have time.”
After she hung up the phone, Owen walked into the room.
Jessica hurried up to Owen and asked, “Owen, was there something just now?”
“It’s nothing, Owen said nonchalantly.”
Stung by this cold attitude, her voice trembled, but she still tried to act

as if nothing had happened: “You were on the phone the whole time, weren’t you?”
Owen suddenly asked, “Jessica, do you really like me?”
Jessica was taken aback and stammered, “R-really…really, are you just overthinking again?”
Owen didn’t speak again, but instead looked at her calmly for a long time, then reached out to straighten her crooked hair ends.
“I was on the phone the whole time just now.”
The stone in Jessica’s heart finally dropped, and she forced a dry laugh, saying, “Didn’t you say you had something to do later? Go on.”
He grunted and then sent Jessica a location.
“Come back here in three hours.”
Jessica blushed and nodded, tacitly refraining from asking further
questions.
She had long been immersed in fantasies about the future, so she didn’t notice Owen’s distraction.
Three hours before the scheduled proposal time, Owen arrived at the wedding venue early.
He watched the people on the scene bustling around in silence, watching the scenes he had fantasized about countless times slowly unfolding before his eyes, but he couldn’t feel happy no matter what.
The assistant noticed his concerns and boldly approached to ask.

“Mr. Keith, were you in a bad mood?”
Owen raised an eyebrow, feeling a sense of inexplicable annoyance in his heart: “How did you figure it out?”
After receiving the answer, the assistant hesitated for a few seconds, and then with the last bit of courage, she managed to speak out the words that had been stuck in her chest.
“Ever since Ms. Heald wanted to terminate the contract with you, your
mood has been bad.”
“Mr. Keith, I have been following you for so many years, and I know you just as well as anyone. I know deep down you never really wanted to propose to Ms. Basom, you have always had feelings for Ms.
Heald!”
