Chapter 6
A horrifying realization struck me–my mother had entered the study too.
I screamed through tears, “Mom! You went in there, didn’t you? You promised! And you promised you’d go with me for the blind date, have you forgotten?”
I screamed hysterically, and my father’s face turned red with anger.
My mother, startled by my outburst, threw a spoon at my face.
“Shut up! Who cares about some stupid study? With your attitude, no man would ever want you! Maybe your father should strangle you–save society the trouble!”
Gone was the gentle woman who’d held me just days ago. Now, she was just like the others- cold, cruel, and eager to see me suffer. She also forbade me from falling in love or getting married, and if I didn’t comply, she wished for my death.
If I was right, my mother had also gone into that strange study. Otherwise, how could the gentle and kind woman she used to be treat me so cruelly?
My younger sister and her husband, dressed and ready to go out, walked out of the living room and saw me covered in blood. They didn’t seem surprised. Instead, they walked away
indifferently.
My father’s blows and kicks came down like rain. I curled into a ball, each strike feeling like a hammer to my vital organs. The pain made my vision blur, and cold sweat drenched my body.
Only when he had had enough did he stop.
My mother clung to his arm, giggling as they retreated to their bedroom.

my
mind and body had been deeply wounded.
I couldn’t understand. I was a normal girl. Why couldn’t I love and marry like everyone
else?
It was the middle of summer, but I felt a chill in my heart.
Now, my mother had turned her back on me. If I stayed in this house any longer, I’d eventually
be tortured to death.
That night, I packed my ID, ready to flee. But as I crept through the dark living room, a sliver

of light caught my eye–the study door was ajar.
Through the crack in the door, I saw my father sitting at his desk, a terrifying and eerie smile stretched across his face, his lips almost touching his ears.
I froze, a chill running down my spine.
Now, I finally understood why my father never wanted me to fall in love or marry!
Before I could flee, my father caught me.
He beat me mercilessly, confiscating all my stuff.
His rage was uncontrollable, and his eyes were filled with murderous intent.
“You bitch, I’m going to kill you! I won’t let you run away! I won’t let you disobey!”
I felt like a paper doll being tossed around, my body in agony, utterly defeated.
The pain in my chest was even worse than the physical torment.
The sound of violent blows echoed through the room. My sister and her husband, thinking a
thief had broken in, rushed out to check.
When they saw I was the one being beaten, they both sighed in relief.
With cruel glares, they stood to the side, coldly watching me.
If I had pleaded for help, they would have treated me the same way they always had, ignoring
me completely.
I had truly given up.
So, I lay down on the ground, letting my father’s fists fall on me, not even bothering to ask for
help.
I gritted my teeth, tears streaming down my face.
“Since you want me dead so badly, then do it!”
My father seemed taken aback by my words, but he continued his brutal punishment.
Before I completely lost consciousness, I saw my sister and brother–in–law pointing at me and

laughing heartily, laughing so hard that they held their stomachs and tears came out.
Their lips moved with malicious intent.
They even kicked my head, laughing, saying that it would be great if I died–then I would never think about getting married again.
