Chapter 7
I thought this time I was surely going to die.
Honestly, if I did die, it wouldn’t be the worst thing. At least I wouldn’t have to continue
suffering in this world.
But when I woke up, I found myself in a completely unfamiliar place.
It was a run–down rural area, but the house I was in was relatively clean and tidy.
My entire body was wrapped in bandages, and the smell of ointment filled the air. It seemed doctors had treated my wounds.
I was still alive.
Before long, a police officer came into the room with a lunchbox. When he saw me sitting up,
he immediately came over and asked if I was feeling better.
“Thank goodness, you’re finally awake! This is a safe house set up by the police. As long as you’re here, no one can find you or disturb you. Now, can you tell me everything about what happened?”
I was surprised. “How did you bring me here?”
Detective Warren explained, “I was on patrol with my colleagues when we passed by your house. We heard your screams, and when we broke down the door, we found you lying on the ground, covered in blood. Your father has already been taken into custody. We’ll make sure justice is served!”
He said angrily, “If we hadn’t gotten you to the hospital in time, you would have died for
sure!”
I thanked him.
Maybe the heavens still wanted me to keep living.
Detective Warren looked at me in disbelief. “It seems like your father has abused you more
than once. You could have sought help, or called the police.”
I couldn’t help but laugh bitterly.

“In fact, I’ve been seeking help constantly, but my father always stops me from calling the police. Everyone around me defends my father, saying that he hasn’t hurt me. They say everything is my fault.”
At first, I tried to confide in relatives, but as soon as they followed my father into the study,
they became twisted and hostile, practically wishing for my death.
Whether it was ex–boyfriends or close friends, they all eventually turned on me.
After those breakups, I’d begged through tears for another chance. But they’d all turned ice–cold, telling me we were through forever.
Even when I tried running away, my father always found me. He’d drag me back and beat me within an inch of my life.
That day, I told Detective Warren all the painful details of my life.
He cried along with me, deeply affected by my suffering, his fists clenched tightly in sympathy.
He reassured me, “Don’t worry. No one will hurt you again. I’ll protect you, I promise!”
that he would help me gather evidence at home and make sure my father was jailed,
m anyone again.
ctive Warren sent someone to take me home.
at it wasn’t to gather evidence. He really just wanted me to return home.
Detective Locke, who was responsible for escorting me back, seemed puzzled.
“I wasn’t there, but according to my colleagues, Detective Warren was very angry after escorting your father back home. He had a heated argument with him.”
“He demanded to know why your father had been abusing his daughter, but your father just smiled ominously and wouldn’t admit anything. When Detective Warren got so angry he punched the wall, your father suddenly ran off, hiding in a room. And Detective Warren followed him in.”
I knew, it was the study that Detective Warren entered.
