Love Burned 13

Love Burned 13

Chapter 13

Cassian clenched his fists tightly, his bloodshot eyes brimming with mist. He was unable to contain his emotions and smashed the laptop violently to the ground.

He lost control, kicking over the tower of red wine and shattering the giant screen.

Then, he grabbed the documents scattered among shards of glass on the floor. As he crushed them in his hands, blood smeared across the white paper, dripping down onto the ground.

He suddenly laughed until he was in tears. “Honey, you must hate me so much, right? There’s no way you’d ever forgive me again. How could I have been so full of myself to think I could ever hide it from you?”

Cassian stumbled back, his heart aching painfully with every beat.

Rayna stood frozen in shock, completely dumbfounded. She had always known Cassian to be calm and composed. Yet, here he was, completely losing control. 1

She stayed silent and held her breath. She was desperate to escape. Suddenly, Cassian turned to

look at her. She jolted in fear.

“Cassian, Cassian… don’t be upset. Naomi will come back. If she’s unhappy, I can leave,” she forced herself to say, trying to comfort him. Her alluring face was filled with terror.

Cassian sneered and stepped up to her. “You don’t need to leave. You’re staying by my side.”

Seeing his emotions seemingly under control, she relaxed a little. Maybe Cassian still loved her, but his next words sent a chill down her spine.

“Once I uncover all your crimes, you’ll understand what it means to live a life worse than

death.”

A flicker of murderous intent crossed Cassian’s usually gentle face as he ordered his

subordinates to take Rayna away.

Rayna was too scared to speak. As she was being pulled out of the ballroom, she finally remembered to beg. “Cassian, I’ve been framed…”

Cassian shut his eyes, yet he couldn’t escape the haunting image of Naomi’s pale face that lingered in his mind like a relentless curse.

He fought to rein in his emotions, forcing himself to stay rational as he walked out of the ballroom.

He then instructed Daniel to look into the buyer of the Whitaker residence. No matter the cost, he was going to buy it back.

Roy glanced at Cassian’s ashen face and couldn’t resist a mocking remark. “Mr. Hartwell, fancy seeing you again so soon. Did you really think buying back the Whitaker Residence would somehow make up for what you’ve done?”

“Cut the crap. Sell it to me for triple the price,” Cassian said furiously.

“Not for sale.”

“You don’t have a choice. You’re just a lowly lawyer. What makes you think you can stand against the Hartwell family? Ten times the price. You have one day to finalize it with my assistant,” Cassian warned coldly.

Roy let out a dismissive laugh and stood up. “Feel free to try, Mr. Hartwell. I’ve got other matters to attend to, so I’ll take my leave.”

Cassian stared at Roy. “You know where my wife is, don’t you? She asked you to deliver those documents. There has to be contact between you.”

His voice rose slightly, emotion slipping through. “Where’s Naomi?”

“Mr. Hartwell, you and Naomi aren’t husband and wife. Legally, you have no right to call her your wife. And morally, you don’t deserve to,” Roy retorted icily.

His words cut through Cassian like a blade. He took a sharp breath. “Whatever’s between me and Naomi is none of your concern. Just tell me where she is.’

Roy said nothing more and turned to leave. Cassian chased after him, grabbing his shoulder to stop him.

He shook him off in disgust, but Cassian stepped forward again, yanking Roy by the collar. ” I’ll give you one more chance. Tell me where she is.”

“You don’t deserve to know.”

Cassian punched him. Roy didn’t hold back as well. He struck back immediately.

Suddenly, Cassian lost his footing and stumbled hard into the nearby glass door. He crashed right through it, hitting his head. His suit was shredded by the glass.

Blood poured down his face, blurring his vision. A wave of dizziness hit him, and everything went black as he lost consciousness.
