Chapter 14
Cassian woke up in the hospital. He’d suffered a severe concussion and had been unconscious
for a week.
The first person he saw was his mother, Lydia Warren. Her face was filled with worry, moment she saw he was awake, her expression darkened.

“Cassian, I always thought you were a good man, unlike your bastard of a father. But now… you’ve truly disappointed me.”
Lydia reprimanded, “I know everything about what happened with Naomi. You’re the one who wronged her. Don’t go looking for her again. She’ll never forgive you, not in this lifetime.”
Cassian’s hands trembled under the blanket. A dull ache spread through his chest.
He shook his head firmly. “No. I’m going to find her. I’ll make things right. I’ll bring her back
to me.”
He couldn’t let go of the years they’d spent together. He admitted to being at fault. But no matter the cost, he was going to find Naomi and win her back.
“Mom, I’ll handle this,” Cassian said, closing his eyes and refusing to speak further.
Lydia sat with him for a while. But when she realized she couldn’t change his mind, she left.
Cassian’s father, Alex Hartwell, had once cheated and died in a plane crash while eloping with his mistress. Lydia had never forgiven him. From the very beginning, she raised Cassian to be devoted and loyal in love.
She had once believed Cassian’s love for Naomi was pure and unwavering, that he would cherish her for life. Now, she no longer wanted to interfere. She only hoped Naomi wouldn’t be hurt by him again.
After Lydia left, Cassian immediately arranged to be discharged from the hospital.
He took the investigation file on Rayna and went to see her. She had been locked up for a week, looking gaunt and haggard.
The moment she saw him, she threw herself at him. “Cassian, you finally came. Please let me
out… I’m starving, and so is the baby.”
She grabbed his hand and placed it on her lower belly, hoping he’d show mercy for the sake of their child.
“Can you forgive me, please? I never meant to hurt Naomi before… I’ve been feeling a bit overwhelmed lately, trying to compete with her. I know I was wrong. I’ll behave from now on,

I promise.
“We can go find Naomi together. I’ll apologize to her. I’ll be good, really.” She cried as she spoke. In the past, whenever she acted like this, Cassian would soften and even comfort her.
But now, he just stared at her with a cold, lifeless expression. His eyes were chilling, like he was looking at a corpse.
“Drop the act, Rayna. If it weren’t for the fact that you once saved Naomi, you’d already be dead.” Cassian gripped her chin tightly and shoved her back.
“What are you doing? Cassian, I really know I was wrong. Please don’t hurt me. I’m carrying your child.” She was terrified, struggling to breathe.
“Don’t worry. You won’t be pregnant for much longer.” He let go of her.
She collapsed weakly to the floor, clutching her throat and gasping for air.
“Please… Don’t treat me like this.” Rayna didn’t even have time to react before she saw a bodyguard walk in, dragging a baseball bat. She shrank back in fear.
Rayna struggled as they seized her, and Cassian personally took the bat and slammed it hard into her stomach.
She cried out in pain, blood immediately streaming from between her legs. Her face twisted in agony. “Cassian, you’re insane! That’s your child, too! You’re a monster!”
Cassian acted as if he didn’t hear her and struck her again. Her voice trembled from the pain. ” Please… stop… I’m begging you… Let me go.”
By the third strike, Rayna was already convulsing from the pain. She was no longer able to even beg for mercy.
Watching her bleed heavily and writhe in agony, Cassian’s eyes turned red. When Naomi was beaten, she must have been in so much pain as well.
“Keep going. Finish all 99 strikes. Then, throw her in prison. Don’t let her die!” Cassian tossed the bat aside and turned to leave.
Gripping his chest, a searing pain sliced through his insides. He bent over in torment, blood oozing from the corner of his mouth as he succumbed to the ground.
“Honey, where are you? I miss you so much. Without you… I can’t go on.”
