Chapter 3

Without another word, I turned and walked straight into the bedroom, shutting the door behind me.

Through the door, I heard Damian sigh outside.

Over the next two days, articles began flooding the internet.

“Serena Set to Become L&W’s Global Ambassador, Career Sees a Second Wind”

“Damian and Serena: Where Do They Stand? Insider Reveals the Pair Never Truly Split”

“The Bittersweet Love Story of Damian and Serena Has Netizens Swooning”

I scrolled through these pieces, each one spun with such vivid detail it was as if Serena’s L&W endorsement was already a

done deal.

Some influencers even started speculating how much her market value would skyrocket after securing the endorsement.

On the evening of the third day, Damian called me again. “Evelyn, I’ve booked a table at the restaurant tomorrow night.”

I was in the middle of a video conference and signaled my assistant to pause. “What restaurant?”

“The one we always go to. I’ve invited Serena and Amber. I’d like you to come too.” His voice sounded weary. “Let’s all sit down and talk this out properly, find a peaceful resolution.”

“A peaceful resolution?” I leaned back in my chair. “Damian, in this situation, what exactly do I need to discuss with

them?”

“Evelyn, just do this for me, okay?” There was a pleading note in his voice. “Amber is young and impulsive-she speaks without thinking. But she’s just worried about me, doesn’t want to see me caught in the middle. As for Serena, she’s never gone out of her way to cause trouble for you. This whole thing has been harder on her than anyone.”

Listening to him, I suddenly found it all rather amusing. “So, this dinner tomorrow-am I supposed to hand the

endorsement contract to Serena in person?”

“It’s not like that…”

“Or are you expecting me to apologize to Amber face-to-face? For hurting her beloved brother and sister-in-law?”

The line went quiet for a few seconds.

“Evelyn, you know that’s not what I meant.”

“Then what did you mean?”

“I just want us to go back to how we were before. You know, this past year we’ve been married… we’ve always gotten along so well.”

Gotten along so well.

I thought about how, over the last year, he’d bring me gifts every time he returned from a business trip.

How he remembered my favorite restaurants and ordered me late-night snacks when I worked overtime.

How he’d occasionally sit with me in the living room to watch a movie, though most of the time he was glued to his

phone.

This was what he called getting along so well.

Holding onto one last hope for him, I agreed. “What time tomorrow?”

His relieved exhale traveled through the phone.

“Seven o’clock, the usual place. Evelyn… thank you.”
