Camille approached, her chin arrogantly lifted, that ever–annoying expression still glinting in
her eyes.
“Brinestone’s had major drastic changes over the past few days. You must’ve noticed, right? Any thoughts?” she asked as she smiled and scanned between us.
To be honest, I hadn’t expected Camille to be this capable.
“Camille, you do have some skill, I’ll give you that.” Sophia snorted.
“Of course I do. Did you think that Layton Group couldn’t function without a mangy lapdog? That’s ridiculous!
“Looking back on what you said that day, do you feel embarrassed yet?” Camille taunted as she crossed her arms, looking as smug as ever.
Sophia frowned and said nothing, while Camille just kept going. “I’m kind, you know. I don’t hold grudges, and today, I’m here to talk business.
“Layton Group is about to monopolize the logistics industry in Brinestone, so I’m here today to acquire your company.”
She turned to me and continued, “Max, a few days ago, I offered you the chance to return to Layton Group, yet you refused.
“Now that your company’s on the verge of bankruptcy, I’m still willing to take in trash and recycle you, muttface, while I’m at it. This is your last chance.” Her eyes were filled with scorn
“Acquire us? My apologies, Ms. Layton, but we aren’t for sale. You may leave now,” Sophia replied without hesitation.
“I wasn’t asking you; I was asking Max.
“You have the Hartwells to fall back on if this company goes down, but if Max loses this company, he’s just a stray dog with nothing left to his name.” Camille pouted as her smile grew more delighted.
“You think you’ve won, don’t you?” Sophia glared at her as her gaze grew icy.
“Of course. I’ve sealed the deal with Centrise Group, and with their backing, I can crush you
with ease.
“The logistics costs are fixed. I don’t even want to make a profit. I’ll just undercut you so you can’t lead a single order.
“With no orders and business, you’ll definitely go bankrupt.” Camille looked utterly confident as she said that.

I had to admit that her pyrrhic–victory move was brutal. However, with Centrise Group’s support and the Layton family’s financial backing, handling smaller companies like ours was a one–sided fight. Ordinary people wouldn’t stand a chance.
“Fine. I’ll wait and see how you plan to bankrupt us. Now get out!” Sophia sounded furious, but Camille didn’t budge at all.
Instead, she turned to me. “So, Max, have you thought it through? Are you selling or not?
“Or if you don’t wish to sell, you can partner with me instead. I’ll let your company survive, but only if you come to me as my lapdog again. This time, you’d better be more obedient than ever.”
She smiled at me like she was certain I’d eventually submit.
“Get lost! I’m telling you again–if you don’t leave, don’t blame me for getting nasty!” Even the gentle Sophia couldn’t hold back and exploded in anger.
I could see that she was genuinely furious and couldn’t stand watching me get humiliated.
“Just give up, Camille. Even if this company falls and I end up working for someone else, it sure as hell won’t be you,” I declared and met Camille’s gaze with disdain.
Her expression twisted instantly.
“Fucking mutt! Fine! Let’s see whose lapdog you’ll end up being in the end!”
