After Camille left, Sophia turned to me. She said firmly, “Don’t worry. I won’t let the company collapse. Even if it does, we can always pivot. It’s not like the logistics industry is the only business out there.”
She was clearly worried that I’d panic and rushed to reassure me.
I smiled before saying, “I get it. Don’t worry. Things aren’t set in stone yet. Just because Camille wants to take us down, it doesn’t mean that she’ll succeed.”
There was still one turning point–Quinn. Naturally, even she might not be able to turn the tide.
But if the company came to the brink of bankruptcy, the worst–case scenario was that I’d sell everything off and start anew in a different industry.
But this time, Camille had really crossed the line. I might not be materialistic, but this company was my blood, sweat, and soul. I’d never let it slide now that she was using such underhanded tactics against me.
“I’ll also think of something over the next few days. Don’t worry about it,” Sophia said. She smiled, but I could tell that it was forced.
She was under no less pressure than I was. The Hartwells had invested a lot, and she’d studied abroad. Although she had never said it outright, I had a strong feeling that she had only returned for me.
The Hartwells had high hopes for her. If our company were to fail, it would cause her all kinds of trouble.
Moreover, she wasn’t exactly young anymore. Marriage was ditely on the table for a woman from a renowned family like hers.
Lilian supported me because she had faith in me. If I fail this time, not only would I lose her trust, but Sophia might also return abroad.
For the sake of my company, Sophia, and my own future, backing down was simply not an option.
After Sophia left, I stared at the stack of termination contracts and racked my brain for a solution. That was when my phone rang with a call from Quinn.
She said, “Max, get ready. We’re going to Govendale today.”
The moment I heard her voice, my expression shifted. That was fast! I had expected it to take a few more days.
“Got it!” I packed up immediately, drove to pick up Quinn, and headed straight for Govendale.
Chapel 20
It took nearly a whole day, and by the time we arrived, it was evening
“Take a shower and change into something clean. I’m taking you to meet someone.” Quinn gave me a wink, leaving me stunned,
“Who are we meeting?”
She hadn’t told me anything about the trip to Govendale on our way over, so I was naturally
concerned.
“You’ll find out soon enough,” she said before disappearing into her room.
I took a deep breath and didn’t press further. Since we were here already, I figured that I might as well go with the flow. Whoever it was, I’d give everything I had if they could help us win the Centrise Group project.
After quickly washing up, I waited downstairs for Quinn.
Moments later, she came down wearing a stunning red dress that hugged her curves and highlighted her beauty. Like a celebrity stepping out onto the red carpet, she took my breath
away.
“Well? Do I look good?” She twirled in front of me, making me chuckle.
“Given how you’re dressed, it must be an important occasion.”
“Not really. We’re just meeting a friend,” she said as she led me out of the hotel. After a short drive, we arrived at a luxurious club.
This was my first time in Govendale, but with just a single glance, I could tell that this was no ordinary place. Only the rich and powerful could walk through these doors.
Quinn took out a sleek black card and led me in. Then, we took ti entered a private room.
