Chapter 72
Cullen’s remark was vague, but I didn’t say anything, knowing that he wasn’t finished.
Cullen said, “My brother made the decision, and none of the directors had the grounds to interfere. After all, it’s just a simple logistics project.
“If you want it, you’ll need his approval.”
After he said that, Quinn frowned and asked, “Is there nothing you can do?”
Cullen quickly replied, “Nothing much. My brother is talented and has way more influence than I do.”
The words might not mean much on the surface, but I couldn’t help but perk up. Within those words, I heard resentment.
Cullen was the older brother. There was no way he’d be fine with his younger sibling holding all the power.
“What-” Quinn wanted to say something more, but I smiled and gently cut her off.
“You’ve given us helpful insight, Cullen. We really appreciate it. Cheers.” I smiled, raised my glass, and clinked it against his.
Cullen returned the smile and didn’t say much more.
Although she was puzzled by my interruption, Quinn didn’t press the issue.
Dinner wrapped up quickly, and after we left the venue, she frowned and looked at me. “Why did you cut me off earlier? I was going to ask if he could fight for the deal a little. Even a price cut could be negotiated. At least that would’ve been something.”
I smiled and replied, “Camille didn’t get that project through her abilities. The Laytons also helped a lot. Pushing Cullen directly might not lead anywhere.‘
Quinn sighed in understanding, but still, she asked, “Does that mean you’re giving up?”
I shook my head. “There’s no way I’m giving up, but I’ve thought of another way.”
Hearing this, Quinn gave me a puzzled look. “What’s that?”
Instead of answering her question, I asked, “The Zenns hold the second–largest portion of shares in Centrise Group, right? Do the Fawkes come first?”
I’d looked into it before coming over.
“Yeah. That’s not a secret.” Quinn nodded.
“And Cullen doesn’t have much say within the zenns. They’re planning to have his brother inherit the family business, aren’t they?”

Again, Quinn nodded and replied, “Correct. His younger brother is named Desmond Zenn. He’s quite capable.”
I smiled. “Capability is just a piece of the puzzle. That’s not what determines who becomes the next head of the family.
“Tell me,
do
you
think Cullen’s content with this arrangement?”
Quinn seemed to understand where I was going. ‘Wait… Are you saying that you want to help Cullen? Do you think you have what it takes to do that right now?”
I shrugged and thought about it before saying, “Well, people can make things happen.”
“In that case, shall I set up another meeting so you two can talk?”
I immediately shook my head at the offer. “Not yet. There’s no point talking right now. I have to show him what I’ve got, especially for something this important.”
I had already formed an idea in
my
mind.
“What exactly are you planning?”
“You’ll see,” I said, my smile ambiguous.
After dropping Quinn off at the hotel, I gave it some thought before I pulled out my phone to make a call.
I wasn’t entirely alone in Govendale. There were a few friends I used to work with.
“Max, what a surprise! What’s up?” a voice heartily answered on the other end.
“I need a favor. That’s not a problem, is it?”
“Of course not. Just say the word…”
