Draven glanced at Matco with a complicated expression “Talhand stepped down two years ago. The Treno family isn’t what it used to be.”
“What’s that supposed to mean?” Matco’s voice rose. “You’re saying you don’t trust Maddox either
“Mateo, Calm down.” Draven’s tone was steady. “It’s not just him. There’s an entire family behind him”
That finally shut Matco up.
He’d always been the loud, cheerful one in the group. But now, Sierra saw sortiething she’d never seen on his face before–real pain.
Dickson, who had been sticking close to Mateo recently, looked uncomfortable too. “Mateo it’s true. I was there when she spoke to Maddox. I heard it with my own ears.”
“Maddox admitted it.”
That was the final blow.
Sierra could understand how Mateo felt. She’d only known Maddox for a short time, and even she felt betrayed. For Mateo, who had grown up with him, it must’ve been unbearable.
The room fell silent.
Just then, Sierra’s phone rang.
It was Johnathan.
He got right to the point. “I’m on my way back now. I’ll be home tonight.”
“Good. Be careful.” She hesitated, then added, “Maddox came by earlier.”
From the way she spoke, Johnathan instantly understood.
“I know,” he said. “We’ll talk when I get back.”
“Mateo’s not taking it well,” Sierra said softly. “He and Draven are still here. Can you speak to them?”
“I’ll talk to them when I return.”
“Okay.”
After hanging up, Sierra let the two men know Johnathan would be home that evening.
Mateo didn’t react. Draven just nødded.
Seeing them like this, Sierra didn’t say anything more. She told the butler to prepare dinner.
Johnathan didn’t return until after nine.

“I’m going to cat something first. We’ll talk while I cat,” Johnathan said.
Matco and Draven had already eaten, but they sat with him anyway.
As he ate, Johnathan gave a brief rundown of everything that had happened.

Before Mateo could say anything, Johnathan added, “I know none of you are afraid. But you have families too.”
That shut Mateo down completely.
He wasn’t thinking about White anymore. He just wanted to ask: What now? What would happen to Maddox? Would they still be brothers after this?
But in the end, he couldn’t bring himself to ask.
He was too afraid of the answer.
Draven, however, spoke up. “White’s a foreign national. That’s going to be trouble.”
His status was high. The embassy would likely step in soon. And once pressure started coming from all sides, few people could resist it.
He also knew Stone had to be involved–mobilizing the navy wasn’t something just anyone could do.
“We’ll never know unless we try,” Johnathan said. “Right now, time is on our side.”
There was a lot of damning evidence on White’s private island. Johnathan had already ordered everything collected. Some of it had already been released–on international platforms.
Now, it was up to public opinion.
Draven nodded. “We’ll give it another push.”
It was getting late. Draven stood up. “We’ll head out. Let us know if anything comes up.”
Then he paused and asked, “And Maddox?”
Johnathan glanced at him. “I won’t do anything to Maddox.”
But whatever bond they had–it ended here.
