I had never laid my hands on a woman before, but in that moment, I just couldn’t hold back.
I could endure anything Camille did to me, but I would never tolerate her crossing my
absolute limit.
“H–How dare you slap me!” Camille was stunned by the slap as she stared at me with wide
eyes.
“I’m warning you, Camille. If you ever lay a hand on my sister again, I swear… I’ll kill you!”
My eyes were bloodshot, and every cold word was hissed out through clenched teeth. I might not know how terrifying I looked right now, but I’d never been this furious in my whole life.
“You…” She seemed genuinely frightened and took a step back. Her eyes were filled with
terror.
“You’ve lost your mind… You must be crazy… I was just trying to transfer your sister to a better hospital-”
She tried to defend herself, but I cut her off with a roar, “Get out!!!
Although her eyes showed fear, she snorted coldly. “Fine. I’ll remember this slap, Max, and I’ll return it one day.”
With that, she turned and left with her men in toll.
Frowning, Quinn walked up beside me. “I know a private hospital, Max. It’s very discreet. Shall we transfer your sister over? Don’t worry. I’ll cover all the costs.”
I took a deep breath and glanced back at Tory lying on the bed. Deep down, my mind began to
race.
There was no way Quinn came just to help with a hospital transfer. She must have harbored
evil intentions. [1
Now that Tory’s current location was exposed, we couldn’t risk staying here any longer.
“Alright, but I’ll pay for everything. I can afford it.”
I immediately arranged for the transfer, while Quinn helped with contacting the private hospital. We worked nonstop until the wee hours of the morning before everything was finally settled. It was only after that that I felt a sense of relief.
Quinn had stayed with me the whole time. “You’ve worked so hard all night. Have some water and rest for a bit,” she said as she handed me a bottle of water.
“Thanks.” I took the bottle and downed more than half in one gulp.

“There’s no need to thank me,” she said, her smile gentle. Then, as if remembering
something, she added, “Oh, and I’ve arranged private nurses for your sister. They’ll be on guard 24/7.
“Plus, this hospital is extremely private. She’ll be safe. Don’t worry about it.”
She made such arrangements, knowing that I might be concerned, I was touched by such thoughtfulness.
“Thank you for staying up all night and helping with everything for my sister. I–I’ll take you home.”
Quinn quickly waved her hand. “No need. It’s not like I’m gonna get lost either. Just stay with your sister. I’ll get going now.”
Before leaving, she walked over to Tory and gently said, “You’d better wake up soon, little one. When you do, I’ll take you shopping for pretty clothes.”
Seeing that soft side of her caught me by surprise
After she left, I sat by Tory’s bed and watched her sleep peacefully. A wave of dread lingered in my chest.
Fortunately, the nurses were dutiful. If Tory had fallen into Camille’s hands, who knew what might have happened?
This incident was a wake–up call, reminding me that Camille was a ticking time bomb. There was no telling when she’d explode.
I wasn’t afraid of her hurting me, but I feared what she might do to Tory.
Slowly, my eyes turned cold.
I’d planned to avoid clashing with the Laytons and figured we’d just go our separate ways, running our businesses. But I had changed my mind.
I would make Camille pay and drag her down to grind her into the dirt. I’d make sure that she’d never get back up again!
Layton Group was a billion–dollar corporation that I’d build with my own hands, so tearing it down was nothing for me.
