“Mr. Layton, you’re flattering me. I just like to be prepared, though I didn’t expect you all to be so cooperative!” I said.
Since things had reached such a point, there was no need for me to maintain pleasantries with
Benson.
Considering how he had tried to screw me over, was there really a need for me to play nice with him? What a joke!
Benson couldn’t say a single word in response. Instead, Camille glared at me and hissed, ” Max, this isn’t over! Just you wait!”
In truth, her angry outburst was just amusing, and I couldn’t even be bothered to answer her.
Once the banquet was over, Cullen, Noah, and I headed out to have a meal together.
Cullen even pulled me aside for a private chat about what lay ahead. He told me about how he had begun to fight for his inheritance, and he advised me to move my company to Govendale as soon as possible.
Otherwise, I would be of no help, considering my current capabilities.
He was just telling me the truth. After all, Maxophia Logistics was just a small startup company, and it wasn’t anything impressive.
“With the Centrise Group’s project under my belt, I believe I’ll be able to grow the business quickly!”
“I’ll be waiting for you,” Cullen said with a smile. Then, he left Govendale with Noah.
Over the next few days, I threw myself into work, and the project progressed quickly. With the Layton family’s logistic chain and my resource allocations, everything progressed smoothly.
Since the Layton family had lost Centrise Group’s support, all of our previous partners
returned to us one after another.
However, Sophia and I had never brought up the matter with them.
Some things did not need to be said, and everyone understood what was left unsaid. In the business industry, preserving other people’s dignity was the biggest grace a person could give.

Once the project took off smoothly, Sophia dragged me out to celebrate.

She smiled brightly and kept clinking glasses with me.
Soon, she became tipsy, and her eyes turned hazy as she looked at me. Then, she asked me that question one more time. “Max, what’s your relationship with Quinn? You need to be honest with me!”
Sweat began dripping down my forehead. I thought she had forgotten all about that!
“We really are just friends…” Quinn and I were indeed just friends. It was just that she had a habit of making some wildly inappropriate jokes.
“I don’t believe that! I’ve noticed how she looks at you!” Sophia scoffed, seeming very displeased with my answer. She had even moved to sit right next to me as she fixed her gaze
upon me,
She exclaimed, “Tell me the truth!”
I really did not know what to say. I couldn’t possibly tell her that Quinn wanted to sleep with me, could I? It was obvious that Quinn was just joking when she said that!
It’s not that I wanted to keep things from Sophia; I just couldn’t bring myself to say those words. Hence, I quickly explained, “We really are just friends.”
Sophia scoffed and reached out for my collar, moving her face inches away from mine. Her breath was warm, and her eyes were dazed, but there was a sharp yet bashful look in her eyes.
She said, “I don’t care. I just want you to stay away from her from now on! She’s so pretty. What if you fall for her?”
I figured that Sophia was probably drunk. Her bashful and shy expression was so much different from her usual self. She looked way too cute!
But before I could answer her, she leaned on me and fell asleep. Her curvy body against mine ignited a flame within me.
However, I remained calm and took her home safely.
Sophia was capable, thoughtful, and stunning. Honestly, who wouldn’t fall for a woman like her?
However, it was not yet the right time.
I silently vowed to myself that once I had the ability to stand before the Hartwell family, I would pursue, her!
