“Once this is done, you’d better sign that contract with me right away! I really look forward to working with you,” I said.
Henry shook my hand firmly, and I replied without hesitation, “Thank you for your trust, Mr. Talerico. I’ll leave the contract with you. Don’t worry about anything.”
He laughed heartily. After a brief exchange of small talk, I left Optima Enterprises and visited a few more transportation warehouses before returning to the office.
Over the next few days, I waited patiently. It didn’t take long before I received a message from
Henry.
After reading it, I smiled and made my way to Layton Group. It’d been months since I was back, but this place hadn’t changed a bit.
“Are you all useless? Can’t you even handle something this simple? Do I have to think of everything myself? Did I pay you people to sit around and do nothing?”
The moment I stepped into the building, I heard Camille screaming furiously.
Truth be told, she never knew how to do anything. I’d personally taken care of everything back when I was around.
The managers and the operation team had been following the systems and procedures I put in place. To them, running the place felt effortless but over time, they lost the ability to think independently.
Now that I was gone, and they were used to going to Camille for everything, they naturally
wouldn’t get answers.
“Ms. Layton, there are ongoing issues with Optima Enterprises‘ food logistics. Either the supplies are delayed, or there are other complications.
“I think Mr. Talerico is causing trouble on purpose.”
They tried to explain, but Camille snapped back at them, “Bullshit! I asked Mr. Talerico myself!
“Food logistics are inherently tricky with temperature in transport warehouses, expiration dates, and delivery windows to be taken care of. It’s all in the details!
“You’re the ones who were careless, and now, you’re trying to blame him! What the hell am I even paying you for?”
The ones in charge received a severe scolding.
“B–But none of this has ever happened before.”

“That’s right. We believe it’s Mr. Talerico’s fault, Ms. Layton.”
I smiled. Naturally, it was Henry’s problem, because I told him to make a fuss.
1 knew Layton Group inside out. These people lacked the foresight and attention to detail necessary to manage anything properly.
After I left, Henry told me that he’d needed to keep a close eye on things. All issues were naturally piled up now that Layton Group was fully responsible.
“You’re still saying that! Do you know what Mr. Talerico told me? He said Max was way attentive than any of you when he was in charge!
“Now look at you, none of you are even as competent as a muttface! Yet you all have the nerve to complain!”
As Camille’s scolding grew more ruthless, the manager fell silent.
I shook my head, chuckled, and stepped in. A number of employees spotted me, and their eyes
lit up.
“Mr. Wexler, you’re back!”
“Are you coming back to the company?”
“When are you coming back? We’ve missed you, Mr. Wexler.”
They all gathered around me, including people who once looked down on me or criticized me behind my back.
I remembered how some of them used to privately say that I was nothing but a lapdog for the Laytons in. But now that I was gone, how were they any different?
“Who? Who just walked in?”
Camille’s voice rang out from inside the office before she stepped out in her high heels. When she saw me, she was briefly stunned, but her expression soon twisted into a sneer.
“Well, well, well, what brings you here today, Mr. Wexler? Our humble Layton Corporation is far too small to accommodate someone of your league.”
Her sarcasm didn’t even register with me as I wasn’t interested in playing word games with her. Instead, I went straight to the point and flatly announced, “I’m here to talk business. Do you want to have that conversation out here?”
Camille frowned. “Business? There isn’t any business between us.”
