Chapter 4
I fought to get on my feet. “Use my blood! Luca, take mine–leave the kids alone!”
Luca stared at me like I was dirt. “Oh, now you give a shit about kids? Then why’d you try to kill Sophie’s baby after I told you to back off?”
My twins were brought in, with Jade stumbling behind them, completely drenched.
“Mr. Devereux, the babies are burning up with fever! Taking blood from their hearts will kill them!”
Luca could see how flushed and sick they looked.
He hesitated for a second. “It has to be the kids‘ blood?”
For a moment, I thought maybe he’d show mercy. I broke free and dropped to my knees in front of him and Sophie.
I started slamming my head against the stone floor, over and over.
“Don’t hurt them. Whatever you want to do, do it to me. I can handle it.”
Blood started pooling under my forehead.
Luca looked conflicted. Even with Sophie crying and begging, he started to wave his hand.
“Fine, take them-”
“You know what they say about animals not hurting their own young? Well, this bitch actually poisoned her own kids to keep them sick.”
The family doctor laughed coldly and stuck a needle into one of my babies‘ fingers.
A drop of dark blood came out.
Luca’s face went black with rage as he kicked me down.
“I should’ve known! You’re rotten to the core!”
He grabbed a syringe from the doctor.
“You want to keep playing games? Let’s see how you like what your kids are going through.”
The doctor shoved the needle into my skin through the wounds the ferret had made, injecting whatever poison was in that thing.
The drug hit me like a freight train. It felt like thousands of bugs were eating me alive from the inside out, crawling under my skin, biting and clawing.
I rolled around on the ground screaming my head off.
Blood started pouring out of my eyes, nose, and mouth.
The burning, crawling sensation went on forever.

Chapter 4
Luca stood over me when I was barely breathing. “You get it now?”
I could only look at my bables. “Please… get someone to help them.”
Every word came out with blood.
The doctor rolled his eyes. “Don’t listen to her bullshit. Once the drug wears off, their fever will break.”
Luca went quiet for a while, then asked randomly, “What about her?”
The doctor glanced at Sophie before answering, “It’s just a hallucinogenic. Psychological torture, some surface damage. Nothing permanent.”
Luca waved for his guys to drag me away and lock me up.
My kids had gotten so hot they’d passed out completely.
I tried crawling toward them with my destroyed body. “My babies… please…”
But Sophie picked them up first. “See? Their fevers are already going down.”
She squatted next to me, holding my children, and whispered sweetly:
“Poor little things. With such a psycho for a mom, no wonder they’re probably brain–dead from all this.”
Her smile was pure evil.
“I’m not heartless like you, though. I can’t stand seeing families torn apart, so I’ll let you babysit.”
I couldn’t move a finger. She was going to make me watch them die.
Terror shot through me, but my throat was full of blood–I could only make choking sounds.
Sophie had her people drag me away.
“Luca, honey, I really think Seraphina’s learned her lesson now. She’ll take good care of the babies.”
Locked in that room, my babies got weaker and weaker in my arms.
I laughed silently, losing my mind.
Why? Why was this happening when I wasn’t even fighting her anymore?
Right when I thought it was over, someone pried open the window.
One of Eleanor’s people looked shocked as hell when he saw us and quickly shoved pills down our throats.
Then he carried all of us out through the/window.
Before the christening, Luca personally put a gold chain around Sophie’s baby’s neck.
He looked at the box with two more chains and frowned.
“Where the hell is Seraphina? Even if she’s still messed up, shouldn’t she bring the kids?”
“Today’s when we annoue my heir. Her brats need to show up and bow to their big brother, or how’s Sophie’s son gonna get any respect?”
His bodyguard went to get them.
Luca played with the two remaining chains, planning ahead.
Seraphina’s kids would still get put in the family records as legitimate.
As for Seraphina, he’d keep her locked up for a few years until she got her hoght, then maybe let her see the kids again.
“Boss! Boss, we got a problem!”
His bodyguard’s panicked voice cut through his thoughts.
“What now? Is Seraphina threatening me with the kids again? Tell her if she wants to stay in this house, she better cut the drama!”
The bodyguard looked like he’d seen a ghost, shaking all over.
“Boss, I can’t tell her anything. Seraphina and the kids… they’re all dead!”
