Chapter 6
I moved into an apartment in the city center.
Far from the house we once lived in. Far from all the painful memories.
Daniel found me.
He stood outside my building, unshaven, with bloodshot eyes.
“Hannah, can we talk?”
I looked down at him through the window but didn’t go downstairs.
He stood there all night.
Soaked to the bone in the pouring rain–just like I had been once.
“Hannah, I know I was wrong. Please, just come down and talk to me. Just once.”
I looked out the window and thought of that rainy night outside the bridal shop.
Back then, I had knelt in the rain while he walked past me with Sophia in his arms, not even sparing me a glance.
Now it was his turn.
How the tables had turned.
After work, he finally caught me outside.
There was a desperate, pleading look in his eyes.
“Hannah, I’ve broken up with Sophia.”
“She admitted it. She was the one who drugged me.”
“And the child… it’s not mine either.”
I stopped walking and looked at him.
“And?”
Hope lit up in his eyes. “And now we can start over.”
“Start over?”
I gave a cold laugh. “Daniel, do you think I’m a trash can?”
“You threw me away after using me. And now you want to pick me back up?”
“No, it’s not like that…” he shook his head quickly. “I really love you…”
“Love?”

I cut him off. My voice was like ice. “Do you even know what love is?”
“You threw my pendant into the fire. You made me kneel in the rain until I passed out. You never once cherished my love.”
Daniel’s face went pale as paper. “It was all a misunderstanding…”
Panicking, he fumbled with the items in his hands–old photos from our childhood.
“Hannah, look. This was when we built that snowman together.”
“This was your tenth birthday. I made you a cake.”
“And this was from the amusement park. You said you wanted to be with me forever.”
In the photos, we smiled so brightly–as if the world had only the two of us.
Back then, Daniel’s eyes had only held me. Back then, I believed we’d be happy together forever.
“But you destroyed all of that with your own hands.”
I spoke calmly. “Daniel, no matter how beautiful the past was, it doesn’t cancel out the pain you’ve caused me.”
“To me, those photos are just trash now.”
“Just like how you once threw my pendant into the fire–like it was garbage.”
He dropped to his knees in front of me.
“Hannah, I know I was wrong. I’m kneeling here to apologize.”
“Please forgive me. Just give me one more chance.”
People stopped to watch. Some were even taking photos and recording videos.
But I only found it laughable.
People really did change.
When the hurt cut deep enough, the heart truly went cold.
