Chapter 18
In the ward, Brandon was deep in thought, his expression heavy.
“Anna, my mom’s a bit hot–tempered. Just try to be patient with her. She has always liked Jessie, and she’s taking it hard now that Jessie’s gone.”
Anna clenched her fists but still managed a smile. “It’s fine. Mrs. Kerr is an elder. I wouldn’t hold it against her.”
Brandon felt a pang of guilt at how understanding Anna was. He still had feelings for Jessie, but deep down, he knew she no longer belonged to him. He had already hurt one woman. He wasn’t going to hurt another.
“Anna, let’s get married once I’m discharged. Don’t worry, I’ll take full responsibility for you.”
That one sentence left Anna completely stunned.
Brandon might want to marry her now, but she had no interest whatsoever. She didn’t want to spend the rest of her life with a cripple.

say,
However, Anna didn’t dare fall out with him so directly. She could only force a smile and Brandon, you just got divorced. If we get married right now, it’ll ruin your reputation. I know you care about me. There’s no rush. We can wait until things quiet down.”
Brandon felt a warmth spread through him, along with more guilt. “Thank you, Anna. Right now, you’re the only one who’s still by my side.”
At a cafe, Jessie was sitting across from Monica.
Monica sighed repeatedly. “Jessie, I’ve heard about everything between you and Brandon. You two were practically childhood sweethearts. Do you really-”
Before she could finish, Jessie cut her off. “Mrs. Kerr, I was never Brandon’s childhood sweetheart. That’s always been Anna. I tried for three years. But in the end, the one he loves is still Anna. I truly did my best. Besides, I don’t love him anymore. Zane is my husband now.‘
Monica knew Jessie well. Seeing how firm she was, she couldn’t help but sigh again. Brandon’s so blind and clueless, letting that tramp, Anna, wrap him around her finger.”
Jessie pulled out a card from her wallet. It was the contact for a top specialist in leg injuries. Mrs. Kerr, I’m sorry about Brandon’s leg. This doctor is very skilled. You can reach out to him if you’d like. Consider it my way of making amends. ”
She was only doing this for Zane’s sake. The Kerr family was still part of their circle. They
would inevitably cross paths.
Monica accepted the card without hesitation. “Thank you, Jessie. What a pity. You two were married for years and still didn’t have a child.”
Jessie raised an eyebrow. “Didn’t he tell you I was pregnant a month ago? I ended up having a miscarriage.”
Monica looked as if she’d been struck by lightning. She stared blankly at Jessie. “How did that happen?”
Jessie briefly explained the situation. By the end of it, Monica was trembling with rage.
“Anna again! It’s always Anna! Even if you’ll never get back together with Brandon, I’ll never allow that woman to step foot into our family! Jessie, Brandon failed you these past few years. If there’s ever anything you need, just let me know.”
This would probably be the last time Jessie met her alone, but she gave her a polite nod for
now.
Monica stormed out of the cafe after knowing the truth. Before she left, Jessie told her one last thing. “Oh, and Mrs. Kerr, Anna went abroad back then because she found someone richer than the Kerr family. As for why she came back now, I honestly have no idea.”
