The familiar voice made Alisha jump out of her skin.
“Z–Zane, just take Jessie with you. I’m done talking to her!”
She nudged Jessie away, wanting to leave as fast as possible.
Only then did Zane let go of her. He coldly warned her, “Don’t let me catch you pestering her again.”
Once Zane and Jessie had walked off, Alisha finally dared to mutter under her breath, “He picks his wife over his sister–typical.”

Brandon had been in the hospital several days in a row.
Although Monica claimed she was done with him, she had been secretly consulting every top specialist she could find.
Thanks to the contact Jessie had provided, Monica finally secured an appointment with Larry Smith, a renowned orthopedic expert.
Phillip and Liliana were both present in the ward, along with Anna and Monica.
After Larry finished reviewing all of Brandon’s medical scans, he picked up a small reflex
hammer and tapped gently near the injured area.
Brandon immediately broke into a cold sweat from the pain. “Dr. Smith, it hurts!”
Larry put away the hammer and adjusted his reading glasses.
“Mr. Kerr, I can help you regain about 50% of your mobility. You’ll be able to walk without a cane most of the time, though there will be a noticeable limp. However, you’ll experience excruciating pain in that leg on rainy days. You can take some time to consider it first. If you’re willing to live with that, I can proceed with the surgery.”
Brandon’s temper had been getting worse due to the constant pain. And when he heard he’d be living with pain for the rest of his life, he flew into a rage and threw everything nearby to the
floor.
“I thought you were supposed to be a top expert! And that’s the best solution you can offer? Guess you’re nothing but an empty name!”
Larry’s expression darkened. His tone went cold as he snorted.
“Mrs. Kerr, I’ve been retired for years. If it weren’t for Jessie personally reaching out, I
wouldn’t even have considered taking this case. If he thinks so little of me, then let him find someone else. I’d like to see who else in all of Zonia can perform this surgery!”
Monica quickly tried to apologize, but Larry just ignored her. He gathered his assistants and left the hospital.
Her heart pounded with fury. She stormed back into the ward and slapped Brandon hard across the face, shouting, “Brandon, what exactly do you want? That’s already the best treatment plan. What else are you dissatisfied with? Do you even know how much effort it took to convince Dr. Smith to come out of retirement?”
Brandon’s head jerked sideways from the slap, but his eyes lit up with a glimmer of hope as he latched onto a piece of information.
“Mom, did he just say that Jessie was the one who asked him to help? So Jessie hasn’t completely given up on me, right?”
Monica sneered, “Do you really think Jessie would still want anything to do with you? She’s just doing this to make Zane look good. Do you honestly believe she’s still in love with you? Wake up from your pathetic fantasy!”
Brandon was left speechless, his expression darkening by the second.
“Monica, Brandon’s only acting out because he’s injured and frustrated. Don’t be too hard on him. His leg isn’t going to heal overnight. How about we discuss their marriage first?” Liliana
walked over to Monica.
Anna’s expression instantly changed. She wanted nothing to do with Brandon now. “Mom, Brandon hasn’t even recovered yet. There’s no need to rush things on our side.”
But Liliana shut her down firmly. “Didn’t you come back just for him? Since you can’t exactly do anything else right now, why not make it official?”
“Mom…”
Before Anna could say something else, Monica readily agreed. “She can marry into our family, but there won’t be a wedding.”
Phillip immediately frowned. “Monica, how can there be no wedding? This is Anna’s first marriage.”
Monica scoffed. “Jessie didn’t get a wedding when she married into our family. Why should a homewrecker like her get one? Look, the very fact that I’m willing to let Anna marry Brandon is already my biggest concession. Do you really think I’m going to throw her a grand wedding?
“Are you trying to make sure everyone knows that your adopted daughter crawled into her sister’s bed just to steal her man? You Hickmans might not care about your reputation, but the
