Chapter 13
“Alright, Denise,” Cassandra said.
Daisy suddenly caught on. “Wait a minute. You’re not a celebrity. Why would anyone be following you? Don’t tell me Cameron offended someone in the business world and now, they’re trying to kidnap you to
force his hand?”
Cassandra rolled her eyes. “You’ve been in too many dramas. Real business conflicts aren’t that childish.”
“Then who are those two women?”
Cassandra lowered her eyes and took a sip of water. “They work for Cameron.”
Daisy’s jaw dropped. “Seriously? He’s jealous of me now? Cameron is unreal. He shouldn’t be working in Al and data science; he should be starring in a soap opera with how dramatic he gets.”
“I’m planning to divorce him,” Cassandra said.
Daisy froze for a second. “Why so sudden? Aren’t things going well between you two?”
“It’s complicated. It’s not something I can explain in a few words,” Cassandra said. “But don’t worry. He doesn’t know what happened to you. I didn’t tell him.”
A hint of guilt flickered across Daisy’s face.
“Secrets are best kept to yourself and taken to the grave. The moment you tell one person, it’s only a matter of time before ten others know,” Cassandra said.
Daisy asked, “You don’t even trust Cameron?”
Cassandra replied, “This is about your future. I don’t trust anyone.”
Her phone vibrated twice in her hand with a text from Ryan. “Have you gotten his signature on the authorization letter and the divorce agreement?”
Cassandra was speechless. After a moment, she typed out a reply. “What’s the rush, Attorney Scott? Don’t worry, I can’t wait to pack up and leave so that you two can enjoy your bromance in peace.”
Ryan: “My time’s valuable. Don’t waste it flip–flopping over the divorce.”
Cassandra: “Alright, alright. Got it.”
Daisy asked, “Who got you all worked up? You’re about to poke a hole in your screen.”
Cassandra answered, “Cameron’s best friend, Ryan.”
“The sharp–tongued lawyer?”
“Yeah.”
Daisy looked skeptical. “I thought you two couldn’t stand each other? When did you exchange contact
info?”
Cassandra said, “We’re just using each other. Once this is over, I’ll block him.”
She forwarded two documents to Daisy. “I’m being followed right now, so I can’t go to a print shop. Could you print out these documents and have your assistant send them to me?”
Daisy gave the documents a quick glance on her phone. “You’re seriously going through with the divorce?”
“Yeah,” Cassandra said. “Please get it done as soon as you can.”
Daisy nodded. “Alright. No matter what you decide, I’ve got your back. I brought back a bunch of local specialties. I’ll slip the documents in with them and have my assistant send everything together.”
When they parted, Daisy’s assistant was already waiting in the underground parking lot with the car. Cassandra watched her leave before slowly turning back.
Just as she was about to step into the elevator, the doors slid open. Cameron rushed out and pulled her into his arms. “You didn’t leave?”
Cassandra said, “You’ve got four people tailing me. Where do you think I could go?”
He let out a deep breath of relief. “You’re too smart. I wasn’t sure those four could even keep track of you.”
“Thanks for the compliment, but I’m not a superhero. No matter how clever I am, I can’t just disappear into the sky or burrow underground.”
Cameron chuckled and wrapped an arm around her waist as they stepped into the elevator. “Come on. Since we’re here, let’s do a little shopping and get you some new outfits.”
“I’ve got more clothes than I can wear. I’m not in the mood to shop,” Cassandra said.
Cameron suddenly paused and raised an eyebrow. “Didn’t you donate all your clothes? Did you forget
about that?”
