Chapter 16
Cameron took a deep breath and tried to stay calm. “I admit it happened one time a month ago. I was drunk, and I mistook her for you, but we didn’t go all the way. I sobered up halfway through and stopped before it went too far.”
Cassandra no longer cared about the details like how far it had gone or where it ended. The truth was, he had indeed slept with Annabelle.
If she hadn’t found out, he would’ve kept seeing Annabelle behind her back, and he would’ve continued believing that his affair just made them even.
Cassandra said, “I don’t understand why you’re still holding on.”
“It’s because of you,” Cameron said after pausing to collect himself. “Cassie, just give me some time. I promise I’ll fix this.”
“How can you fix it? She’s already pregnant. What else is there to fix?”
Cameron turned to leave. His voice was cold. “Then she can get rid of it. The only child I’ll ever have is the one you give me.”
He rushed downstairs, and soon, Simon’s angry roar and Grace’s sharp curses echoed from below.
When Cassandra came down, it was obvious Cameron had been hit.
His face was turned to the side, a vivid handprint stamped across his left cheek. His gold–rimmed glasses had been knocked to the floor. One arm of the glasses was snapped in half, showing just how hard the slap was.
When Cameron saw her, he said quietly, “Cassie, stay home for the next few days. Give me three days, and I’ll take care of everything.”
“You’re going to kill your own child because of her?” Simon roared. “What kind of spell did she cast on you? She’s not even clean, yet you treat her like she’s a treasure!”
Cameron shouted back, “She means everything to me! Dad, you can say whatever you want to me, but Cassie has never owed you a thing. I know about her past, so you don’t need to remind me.”
“Ungrateful brat!” Grace screamed. “With your background and status, you could have any woman. Yet you insist on clinging to this slut.”
Grace pounded her fists against Cameron’s back over and over, but he didn’t flinch. He just stood there
and took it.
Just then, the door to the first–floor guest room creaked open. Annabelle’s face was bare of makeup, and she looked noticeably paler than usual. She held her stomach and bit her lip, speaking in an aggrieved voice, “Mrs. Dorsey Senior, please stop hitting Cam. I… I’ll get rid of the baby.”
Grace hurried over to steady her. “Silly git, what nonsense are you talking about? You’re carrying Cameron’s child. That’s my grandchild. I’d like to see anyone try to lay a hand on your
“But Cam… I mean, Mr. Dorsey is already married. I thought he was single. I had no idea he had a wife when i got involved with him. If I’d known from the start, I would never have gotten into a relationship with someone else’s husband. I’d rather die than be with a married mant
“I know, I know. Sweetheart, calm down. You’re still early in the pregnancy, and the fetus is still unstable. Don’t risk hurting the baby.” Grace said.
Suddenly, Annabelle rushed over and dropped to her knees in front of Cassandra. “Ms. Blake, I’m so sorry. It’s all my fault. I really didn’t know anything at the time-*
Cassandra interrupted her calmly, “Did you not know he was married, or did you not know I was his wife?”
Annabelle bit her lip. “I didn’t know either of those things.”
“You can say you didn’t know before, but that night he brought you home, you would’ve seen my vanity and walk–in closet in the main bedroom. Were you blind? You didn’t see any of that? The nightgown you wore, the slippers you walked around in–they were all mine!*
Annabelle’s face instantly turned pale.
Grace immediately stepped in and shielded Annabelle behind her. “My son already brought her home. I’m sure you understand what that means. Cassandra, if you know what’s best for you, I suggest you make the
decision yourself. Don’t let this turn ugly for everyone.”
