As soon as Annabelle cried out weakly, both Simon and Grace grew anxious.
Grace immediately shouted, “Cameron, take Annabelle to the hospital right now!”
Annabelle curled up on the floor in agony, looking as if she were in unbearable pain.
“Cameron!” Simon snapped, giving his final warning.
Cameron clenched his fists tightly and told Cassandra, “I’ll take her to the hospital first. Cassie, wait for
me at home.”
Cassandra stopped him. “Hold on. Do you remember the asteroid you promised to buy for me?”
“Yeah, I remember. What’s wrong?”
“The payment documents are here. I need your signature.”
Cameron looked at her. “Now?”
“Yes. Right now.”
He hesitated for a moment before nodding. “Alright. Let’s make it quick.”
Cameron helped Cassandra carry the box upstairs, taking two steps at a time.
Inside the main bedroom, Cassandra slit the box open with a knife and took out the two documents. She
handed them to him. “Sign them, then take Annabelle to the hospital.”
Downstairs, Annabelle’s sobs, Simon’s yelling, and Grace’s scolding blended into one chaotic storm of
noise. It was like nails on a chalkboard or a fire alarm you couldn’t shut off, relentless and impossible to
ignore.
Cameron was frustrated, so he quickly signed his name and handed the papers back. “Cassie, please wait
for me.”
Holding the signed authorization letters, Cassandra stood by the window and watched their car drive away. At last, peace returned to the house.
She pulled out her phone and called Ryan.
He picked up right away. “Ms. Blake?”
“I didn’t expect it, but your photography skills are pretty good, Attorney Scott.”
The angles in those photos were so sharp and precise. Without a solid background in photography, it’d be impossible to capture those split–second moments so perfectly.
Ryan understood what she meant and chuckled. “The same goes for you. Didn’t you hire a professional photographer to snap some intimate–looking shots of us the day we met up?”
“You know about that?”
I’m a lawyer. Nothing gets past me. But Ms. Blake, I’m curious. What are you planning to do with those photos?”
Cassandra scoffed. “Do you still want me to divorce Cameron or not? If yes, meet me outside the
courthouse in 30 minutes.
Half an hour later, Cassandra arrived at the courthouse and saw that Ryan was already there, waiting for
her.
She couldn’t help but laugh. “With how busy you are, I’m surprised you got here early.”
“I was already nearby, so it didn’t take long.”
His gaze landed on her earlobe, and he frowned. “It looks worse than before.”
Of course, it did. The old injury had flared up again when Cameron nearly forced himself on her. Yet Cassandra had no time to dwell on that. The longer she waited, the more things could go wrong. She had to get this over with quickly.
She handed Ryan the signed authorization letters from Cameron, then pulled out both their IDs and held them up for him to see.
“I’ve got everything we need. The sooner we get this over with, the sooner we can go our separate ways,” she said.
Luckily, the courthouse wasn’t crowded today. There was no line.
Cassandra passed all the documents through the service window and said, “I’m here to file for divorce.” With Ryan here, the process went smoothly and quickly.
