“What’s so great about that old man that you have to keep lying to me over and over? Are you doing this to get back at me? Because I got Annabelle pregnant? I’m coming to Stokelle right now. You’d better give me a clear explanation!”
Cameron sent Cassandra text after text, then sent over photos as well. The last photo was taken earlier when she was talking to Javier.
In the photo, Javier was smiling as he reached out to touch her waist, while she had her head lowered shyly.
But in reality, Javier had only just switched his briefcase to his other hand, and that hand had just come down. It was only because of the angle that it looked like he had stopped right at her waist.
And her so–called shyness wasn’t really shyness at all. It was because a jewel cichlid in the aquarium nearby was swimming past, and the red on its body was reflected onto her face by the light.
The angle of the photo was extremely cunning, the timing perfectly calculated. Just from looking at the photo alone, it was impossible to explain.
Lilian suddenly spoke up. “Cassandra, our boss is coming out. Do you want to go talk to him personally and give it one last shot…”
Cassandra had just lifted her head when she saw a familiar face.
Lilian hurried after him, trying to get Cassandra a chance. “Mr. Scott, there’s a truly outstanding candidate here. You could speak with her yourself before making the final decision
Ryan turned around, as if he had already known Cassandra would be there. He gave a light chuckle and waved at Cassandra, then told Lilian, “It’s fine. I know her very well.”
Ten minutes later, Cassandra was invited into Ryan’s office.
She stared at the nameplate on the desk that read “Ryan Scott, Chairman“, unable to process it for a long time:
How did someone who had been a lawyer for over a decade suddenly become the chairman of Westwood Hotel?
Ryan tapped the nameplate, his eyes narrowing in a flirtatious squint. “Surprised?”
“Yeah, a little,” she answered honestly. “Well, this works out. I used to worry that your lawyer’s salary wouldn’t match up to Cameron’s. Now, it’s perfect. You’re on equal f ting. It’s
almost a match made in heaven.”
Ryan let out a snort. “Should I thank you for your blessing?”
“If you’d like, I can also wish you a long, happy marriage and two kids in three years.”
His expression turned dark in an instant.
She continued, “If I had known you were the owner of Westwood Hotel, I would’ve prepared in advance and applied at your competitor’s hotel instead.”
Ryan shrugged indifferently. “It’s not too late to switch now.”
“Honestly, Cameron and I are already divorced. You were the one who went with me to the courthouse to get it done. What exactly did I do to you? Why are you still so set on making things difficult for me, even after the divorce?”
Ryan raised his eyebrow and asked her, “Do you really want this job?”
Truthfully, she did.
It was not only because Westwood Hotel was the top player in the industry, but also that Robert had talked with Westwood Hotel about an acquisition back when he was alive. She wanted to dig up more clues from back then to go after those evil people and clear Robert’s
name.
Just then, the phone rang.
The moment Cassandra picked up, she heard Cameron’s furious roar. “I dare you to spend the night with him tonight! I don’t care if you’re trying to get back at me, Cassie. I can’t bear to punish you. But as for Javier, that old pervert, I’ll make sure he’s completely ruined!”
Cassandra snapped back, “There’s nothing between me and Professor Myers! He has dedicated his whole life to teaching and helping students. Can you stop hurting innocent people?”
“Are you really going to defend him that much? Cassie, I didn’t expect Annabelle to get pregnant either, but there’s a reason behind it. I promised you I would handle the aftermath properly. But I also expect you to behave yourself and not do something irreversible out of impulse.”
“Irreversible? Ha, like what?”
“…Are you really going to bring up that night again and stir things up?”
“Nothing happened that night! Professor Myers and I are completely innocent! We’ve always had a purely professional, teacher–student relationship. Cameron, why would you trust photos over my word?”
Those photos…
Cassandra lifted her head and looked at Ryan.
Did he send those photos to Cameron?
Why?
