I turned to leave but accidentally knocked over a plant by the entrance.
Hearing the noise, Ferris looked up. Seeing me, the warmth in his eyes instantly drained away.
He walked toward me slowly, his thin lips parting, his voice low and cold: “Where do you think you’re going?”
Before I could speak, he continued: “I wanted to explain to you today that my relationship with Ashley isn’t what you imagine. Ashley has been kind to me. Stop overthinking and making a scene. How long are you going to keep this up?”
I opened my mouth, but my throat felt stuffed with cotton.
“Ferris, don’t be so harsh.” Ashley also walked over, smiling as she smoothed things over. “Come sit down.”
Without waiting for my refusal, Ashley directly pulled me to their table.
I was pressed into a chair like a puppet, facing Ferris’s ice–cold expression.
What would you like to eat?” Ashley pushed the menu toward me. “The French cuisine here is very authentic.”
I stared at the French text on the menu that I couldn’t understand at all, feeling embarrassment spread in my heart.

Halfway through my words, Ashley suddenly cried out, raising her hand and knocking over the bowl of seafood soup. The scalding liquid splashed onto the back of her hand and all over mine.
Hearing the commotion, Ferris returned immediately, his long fingers grasping Ashley’s hand: “What happened?”
“Nothing…” Ashley’s eyes reddened. “It’s all my fault. I heard you and Aurora had misunderstandings because of me, so I insisted on coming to testify for you. Aurora, as your mate, being angry at seeing me is understandable…”
Ferris immediately looked at me, his brow furrowed with frost: “Aurora, I’ve explained countless times. Must you act this way?”
I didn’t. She did it herself…”
After speaking, Ferris carried Ashley away without looking back.
Ashley, lying on his shoulder, slowly turned her head back and gave me a victorious smile.
I stood there, trembling as I extended my scalded, red hand.
Blisters had already formed, painful as if thousands of needles were piercing me.
But in Ferris’s eyes, there was only that small patch of slightly red skin on Ashley.
He left so urgently, so decisively, not sparing me even a glance.
