Chapter 7

After a long moment, Lilith’s eyes began to roll back from suffocation. Suddenly, Damien released her. She collapsed to her knees, gasping desperately for air.

But Damien started to laugh. It was a cold, chilling sound that made Lilith’s blood run cold.

“Letting you die like this would be far too easy,” he said, his voice dripping with venom.

“I want you to suffer a thousand-no, ten thousand times more than Carmilla ever did.”

As his words fell, Lilith’s face turned deathly pale. She trembled uncontrollably, sprawled on the floor, but still clawed at

Damien’s feet with all her strength, leaving bloody imprints with every desperate slam.

“Damien! It was me! I did it!” she cried.

“If you want revenge, take it out on me. They’re innocent. They didn’t know anything!”

“I’m begging you-please spare them. I’ll go to the Forbidden Zone myself. I’ll atone to Carmilla… to her child…”

With those words, she shut her eyes in despair, turned, and leapt out the window into the Forbidden Zone.

Damien watched coldly, unmoved. Once the room fell into silence, he collapsed onto the floor.

His pitch-black eyes were filled with lifeless despair.

At the moment Lilith jumped, a vivid image of our daughter flashed through his mind.

The truth was, he didn’t care that much about Lilith’s manipulation. It hadn’t hurt as badly as he’d expected.

What he had hoped-was that by punishing Lilith, by avenging me-I might be able to forgive him, even just a little. Or at

the very least, he might feel a bit less guilty.

But now, emptiness surged through him like a rising tide.

And Damien came to a painful realization: He didn’t even have anyone left to hate anymore.

He curled up beside the bed, gently holding the creature that could only let out hoarse, broken gasps.

Tears of regret mingled with the guilt that crushed him. All he could do was whisper one apology after another.

Just like that night, many years ago, when he held his bride close, Kissed her deeply, and buried himself in her arms,

repeating softly again and again: “I love you.”

But now, whether in memory or in reality, he received no response.

By the time morning arrived, his body had been torn and shredded by the monster beside him.

Blood oozed from deep gashes, his wounds corroded by the creature’s mucus.

And suddenly, a thought struck him-If just one lowborn vampire could make him suffer this much, how hopeless and agonizing must it have been for me, when he had thrown me into that pit?

A vision surfaced in his mind: The look I had given him before I vanished.

A face full of sorrow… and hatred.

A look that silently screamed: “I will never forgive you.”

The creature growled lowly beside him.

Damien rubbed his brow in exhaustion and muttered hoarsely, “Just be quiet for a while, Carmilla… please.”

As soon as the words left his lips, Damien froze.

It was in that instant he truly understood-The woman who had once loved him so deeply, who had forgiven him time and

time again…

Was gone forever.

Taking a shaky breath, Damien stood up as if possessed.

He picked up the creature beside him and walked toward the window.

The cold wind whipped against his face. There was no longer anyone to wrap their arms around him from behind and gently ask if something was troubling him.

He shut his eyes in despair and jumped.

But the pain he expected never came.

Nor did death.

Damien opened his eyes-

Only to find, with overwhelming hopelessness, that he was still alive.

He lay in the very same operating room where, days ago, I had been sliced open to deliver our child.

He opened his mouth to question who had saved him. Who had stopped him from reuniting with his wife.

But after several long moments, he realized that he didn’t even have the strength left to speak.

Forcing himself to his feet, Damien stumbled once more toward the window. Half his body had already leaned out when

the butler’s voice suddenly rang out from behind him..

And just as Damien was about to fall, the butler said a single sentence-

A sentence that made Damien’s lifeless eyes instantly ignite with light. He scrambled back from the ledge in a panic.

At that very moment… I had already left the estate, heading to the one place… closest to him.
