Chapter 15

Ethan’s brow furrowed slightly.

Lilian, noticing Aurora’s incoming call, flashed a look of curiosity mixed with something unreadable in her eyes.

“Ethan?” Lilian glanced at him hesitantly, then reminded him softly.

Only then did Ethan snap back to attention.

Lilian’s phone displayed the gossip about her late-night visit to him that had just exploded online, and now Aurora was calling.

Was she going to confront him?

Ethan frowned, then pressed the hang-up button.

But just seconds after ending the call, his phone vibrated again.

Still Aurora.

That irritated him.

“Ethan, aren’t you going to answer?” Lilian asked.

The next moment, Ethan hung up again and set Aurora’s number to Do Not Disturb.

“No need to bother.” He said calmly.

Lilian opened her mouth as if to say something but closed it again.

She nodded hesitantly, looking uneasy.

Yet when she lowered her head, a flicker of satisfaction flashed in her eyes.

She was doing this on purpose.

Deliberately telling Ethan about the daytime short video.

Showing him the latest gossip.

And deliberately reminding him multiple times right in front of him so he definitely wouldn’t answer Aurora’s calls.

“Let’s go back. It’s late.”

Ethan grabbed his coat and helped Lilian to her feet.

Together, they took the executive elevator down from the top floor of the Steele Group building.

While paparazzi snapped photos of them leaving the building and posted them online, on the other side, Aurora was being carried off an ambulance.

The stretcher rolled quickly into the hospital.

Blood trickled slowly down Aurora’s forehead, staining the white sheet beneath her.

Aurora was barely conscious, her eyes fluttering open just enough to see the hospital’s cold white fluorescent lights rushing past.

Around her, the background noise was loud and chaotic, punctuated by the anxious voice of the officer.

“We’ve called her husband twice but both calls were rejected. What do we do now?”

“Should we keep calling?”

“What if he still doesn’t answer?”

“Forget it. Didn’t you see how mangled the car door is? Right now all we see is the head wound, but who knows if there’s internal damage!”

“Treat her first! Keep calling him!”

“Okay!”

The noise rose again.

It sounded like an argument had broken out in the hospital.

Aurora drifted between consciousness and fainting, the air thick with the hospital’s unique smell of disinfectant.

She heard them arguing, and finally, Isabella’s familiar voice rang out.

Isabella shouted something sharply as Aurora was rushed into the emergency room.

Then she lost consciousness again.

Isabella was nearly furious.

Watching Aurora, her head soaked in blood, being pushed into the emergency room made her heart race with fear.

Luckily, they had brought Aurora to Ashire General Hospital.

Luckily, Isabella happened to be working late tonight.

Luckily, she had passed by and heard the commotion, so she came to check.

They had been debating how to handle Aurora’s case.

No one knew about Aurora’s pregnancy.

Thankfully, Isabella knew exactly what was going on.

Thankfully, her father was the hospital director, so her fury carried some weight.

Otherwise, no one knew what might have happened to Aurora.

Isabella noticed the female officer nearby holding Aurora’s phone and dialing someone.

She stepped forward.

After explaining she was a doctor and Aurora’s close friend, and that she knew the officer was trying to contact Aurora’s

relatives, Isabella took the phone.

The screen was full of missed calls.

Isabella’s anger only grew.

Her phone buzzed suddenly.

She checked and saw a breaking news alert-

#Ethan and Lilian leaving Steele Group building together#

Great. Not answering calls and cozying up to the third party.

Isabella dialed Ethan right away.

The first call went unanswered.

On the second, Ethan finally picked up in the last few rings.

“What is it?” Ethan’s voice was icy.

“What is it?” Isabella shouted angrily into the phone. “Why haven’t you answered Aurora’s calls?”

In the driver’s seat of his Aston Martin, Ethan’s brow tightened.

Seeing it was Isabella calling, his voice grew colder.

“Did Aurora ask you to call me?”

“No!” Isabella roared from the phone. “I’m calling you on my own!”

The light ahead turned red, and Ethan braked.

He glanced again at Aurora’s number on Do Not Disturb.

There were dozens of missed calls.

Ha!

If Aurora didn’t ask Isabella to call, then what was it?

The light turned green, and Ethan started driving again, the Aston Martin gliding forward smoothly-just like his mood:

calm and undisturbed.

Since Lilian entered Steele Group’s building, the phone hadn’t stopped ringing.

Ethan couldn’t be blind to Aurora’s intentions.

“Come to Ashire General Hospital immediately!” Isabella commanded.

“No.” Ethan replied coldly.

Aurora was probably crying at Isabella’s place again, just like before.

Now she was even dragging Isabella into his problems.

Since he mentioned divorce, her temper had only worsened.

“She got hit by a car.”

Isabella’s voice turned icy with anger as she dropped the bomb: “Ethan, if you still have a heart, come here.”

“Shhh-”

The brakes screeched sharply.

The car stopped instantly.

The driver behind honked angrily.

Ethan clenched the steering wheel until his knuckles went white as Isabella’s call ended with a dial tone.

Lilian in the passenger seat quietly watched it all.

Her phone screen suddenly lit up.

She glanced at it quickly, then put it away and “worriedly” looked at Ethan.

“Ethan, do you think something’s wrong? We should hurry to the hospital!”

Lilian’s worry seemed genuine.

“This isn’t a small matter. It could be serious!”

“Good thing it’s General Hospital. Isabella is her best friend, so at least there’s someone looking out for her there.”

“Ethan, we should go now. Aurora made dozens of calls. It must be urgent!”

Lilian was close to tears.

But when she looked down, her eyes were filled with calculation.

A car accident meant something serious.

But the problem was, Aurora just happened to be at the hospital where her best friend worked.

And that best friend’s father was the hospital director.

Besides, Aurora still had time to call Ethan dozens of times.

Her apparent concern was actually a hint.

Chapter 15

A hint that this was all a performance by Aurora and Isabella.

But Lilian wouldn’t let Ethan see through it.

She shed “genuine” tears.

“Ethan, I want to be with you. But if something happens to her, I’d feel guilty for the rest of my life…”

She cried, then suddenly turned away to vomit.

When she recovered, there was “blood” at the corner of her mouth.

Seeing Ethan’s worried look, Lilian hid a fake blood packet inside her bag.

She shook her head.

“Don’t worry about me. Just hurry to the hospital.”

Ethan pressed his lips tightly together.

He restarted the car, and the Aston Martin turned toward General Hospital.
