Chapter 23
Ethan drove the car while outside the window the trees rustled loudly in the wind.
The weather forecast had said it would be windy tonight.
Under the dim street lamps, the shadows of trees danced.
The car clock changed from 23:59 to 00:00.
He suddenly stepped on the brake.
After a brief pause, he immediately made a U-turn and drove swiftly back toward the hospital.
There were few cars on the elevated highway at this hour, and the Aston Martin sped along the lane.
With a final brake, the car stopped below the hospital.
He looked up at the building, still brightly lit late at night, his lips pressed tightly together.
Taking out his phone, Ethan found Aurora’s number and dialed.
“Beep, beep… Sorry, the number you dialed…”
His call was cut off.
He tried again, and the call was cut off once more.
He switched to Isabella’s number to call her.
It was only then he realized Isabella had called him on the way back from dropping Lilian off, but he hadn’t answered.
Frowning, Ethan pressed the call button again.
The call was cut off again.
He stared at his phone and began typing a message.
But as he typed, he hesitated.
How should he ask?
Suddenly, a knock came on the car window.
Ethan looked up and saw Lucian in a white coat.
Frowning, Ethan rolled down the window.
Lucian shook his phone at him.
“If you want to know Aurora’s condition, go see for yourself. Don’t call anymore.”
Ethan narrowed his eyes.

“I’m her husband.”
Lucian sneered.
“So you still remember you’re her husband.”
He continued, “But I heard from Isabella that soon you won’t be.”
Ethan clenched his fists tightly, glaring at Lucian’s mocking face.
“This has nothing to do with you.”
“Of course it does.”
Lucian leaned in slightly, his tone both flippant and dangerous.
“Isabella said that since her fight got Aurora pushed down the stairs by you, so she’d ‘compensate’ by handing hover her
brother to Aurora.”
Lucian smiled. “I think that’s fair.”
“Lucian!” Ethan’s fists tightened even more.
Lucian said nothing else but stood silently watching him.
After a long moment, Ethan said, “Did Aurora send you here to say this to me?”
After the drama with Isabella had been exposed, she contacted Lucian?
Was this her new move?
Lucian’s smile faded, his cold eyes fixed on Ethan.
“Upset?”
“Ethan, you have to understand, Ashire has more men than just you.”
“She’s also someone I grew up with. I know her charm-it’s not less than yours.”
Lucian said calmly, “If you like Lilian, then lock yourself with her. You shouldn’t care about Aurora.”
“Ethan.” Lucian made a firm decision, speaking each word carefully, “The only thing you can do now is let her go.”
Just then, an urgent situation required a critical condition notice to be signed, but only Isabella was waiting outside.
Aurora’s father was gone, and her mother was estranged.
The only one to turn to was Ethan-her husband.
But he was also the one who pushed Aurora down the stairs and left with his mistress.
Even so, Isabella tried calling him, but he didn’t answer.

In the end, Isabella forcibly signed the critical notice using her authority as the hospital director’s daughter, later supplementing with appropriate authorization.
Seeing Ethan’s face tighten more and more, Lucian smirked coldly inside.
He had already given Ethan chances.
If Ethan had gone to the hospital to check Aurora’s condition, it would have shown he still cared.
But he didn’t.
So Lucian decided to make things clear.
Watching Ethan close the car window with a cold expression and drive away, Lucian showed no joy or sorrow.
The strong early morning wind lifted the hem of his white coat.
Watching the Aston Martin turn the corner, he shook his head and sighed softly.
