Chapter 7
My parents came to pick me up from the airport when I finally touched down.
Mom looked concerned as she took my hand. “My sweetheart, you went to college and worked so far from home. Look at you now–you’ve lost so much weight!”
Dad patted my shoulders and muttered, “It’s good to have you back.”
Standing beside them was a tall man with broad shoulders and a trim waist. He looked older than me, dressed in a three–piece suit. Despite his sharp features, his gaze was gentle with a faint smile as he looked at me.
I couldn’t help but blush under his intense gaze. I could already figure out his identity by then.
Mom and Dad quickly introduced him to me, “This is Joseph Shepherd, Mira.”
I reached out my hand to take his, while Joseph gently took my fingertips for a light shake.
“Welcome home, darling,” he said with a smile.
My face immediately heated up at his words.
My parents beamed at us and subtly pushed me toward Joseph. He took over the suitcase I carried in my left hand. He was observant enough to notice the burn on my wrist.
“What happened to your wrist?” Joseph asked.
I didn’t want to talk about the embarrassing incident in the break room, so I simply said it was an
accident.
Joseph’s gaze flickered before he reached out to pat me on the head. “You’ll be my wife soon.
You’ll need to get used to me taking care of you.”
“Okay,” I replied softly. His gentleness was almost too much for me to handle.
The first thing Joseph did after sending me home was to take out the first -aid kit. He carefully
drained my blister, cleaned the wound, and applied a soothing ointment.
I felt awkward stepping into a new relationship immediately after ending the last one. However, he told me he could wait–as long as I chose him in the end.
After sending Joseph off, I was still trying to figure out how to be honest with him.
My parents could tell that something was weighing on me. “Joseph truly cares for you, Mira. We chose him for you ourselves. It won’t go wrong.”
