Chapter 10
No one woke Noah and Simon up in the morning or reminded them to do their homework.
The boys just did whatever they wanted at home, while Britney and Calvin now shared the same bed, falling asleep in each other’s arms every night.
If they slept in too late, the boys would poke fun at them.
Every time, Britney would hide her blushing face in Calvin’s arms, playing the part of the delicate damsel, which only made him want to protect her more.
But soon enough, Calvin had to go back to the office, and it was finally time for Noah and Simon to return
to school.
“Don’t worry, leave them to me. Everything will be fine,” Britney told Calvin as she straightened his tie, just like any devoted wife. She kissed him on the cheek before he left for work.
“Remember to wake up the boys and get them off to school,” Calvin reminded her gently.
Britney nodded, but before she could even reach Noah and Simon’s room, the two boys had already dressed themselves and came running out.
They clung to her legs. “We’re already up! Britney, we saw you kiss Dad. We want kisses too!”
Britney crouched down and kissed them both on the cheek. “There, happy now?”
Noah grinned and nodded. “Yep! Thanks, Britney!”
Simon hugged her back. “Let’s go to school. I can’t wait to tell everyone in class that I have a way better
mom now!”
Hand in hand, the boys proudly walked into school with Britney.
All morning, they introduced her to everyone as their new mom, bragging about her until class started and
they had to say goodbye.
Britney finally returned to the house. As soon as she stepped through the door, her gentle smile disappeared, replaced by a look of annoyance.
“It’s so early for school, and I’m the one who has to take them? I haven’t even had breakfast yet! And I’ve got to pick them up again this afternoon? Why can’t the housekeeper handle stuff like this?”
She kicked the table, shouting, “Somebody make me something to eat! I’m starving!”
The housekeeper, Regina Payne, hurried out of the kitchen. After checking with Britney on what she wanted, she quickly went back to start cooking.
In no time, Britney finally got to enjoy her first bite of breakfast.

But before she’d finished, Regina quietly reminded her, “Ms. Walker, you’ll need to pick up the boys for lunch. They’ll be coming home to eat and then nap before going back to school.”.
Britney frowned. “Doesn’t the school have a cafeteria?”
“They do, but…”
“Then what’s the problem? I’ve barely been home a day, and I’m already running back and forth. Don’t I get to rest?” Britney slammed her silverware down in frustration.
Regina didn’t dare say anything else, picking up the dishes and quietly retreating to the kitchen.
Britney spent the rest of the day relaxing at home. It wasn’t until the afternoon that Regina came to her
again.
Britney glanced up and asked impatiently, “What now?”
“Ms. Walker, the boys are out of school. It’s time to go get them.”
Britney sighed. “Fine. What a hassle. You be sure to get dinner ready and just say I cooked, got it?”
“Yes, Ms. Walker,” Regina replied quietly.
Britney changed into what she thought was the perfect outfit and headed out.
Noah and Simon hadn’t waited long when Britney showed up, dressed up and looking glamorous, to pick
them up. Both boys were thrilled.
“Britney!” they yelled, waving. They even told their teacher, “See? That’s our new mom. Her name is Britney Walker.”
The teacher blinked in surprise. “What about your mom?”
Noah and Simon looked unhappy at the mention of Avery. “She didn’t want us. Actually, we didn’t want
her. Britney is way better.”
Britney walked up, overhearing everything. She smiled politely at the teacher. “Oh, the boys were just joking. Avery had something important come up, so I’m helping out for a while.”
“I see,” the teacher said, “Avery was always very caring with Noah and Simon. I couldn’t imagine her leaving them.”
The teacher had no idea what was really going on and simply assumed Avery was busy. She didn’t notice how Britney’s smile faded slightly at that.
Britney quickly said goodbye to the teacher and brought the boys home.
Regina had dinner ready. The boys’ eyes lit up when they saw all the dishes.
“Britney, you cooked all this? You’re amazing! Our mom only ever made healthy food. It tasted awful!”
Noah exclaimed.
“Yeah, Britney’s way better!” Simon agreed, jumping into his seat at the table.
Their backpacks, shoes, and jackets were strewn across the floor.
Britney glanced at the mess and snapped at Regina, “Are you blind? Can’t you clean this up?”
The boys just laughed, not picking up on the harshness in her tone. “Dad pays you to take care of us, so hurry up! Don’t make Britney remind you every time!”
Regina bent down to pick up the boys’ things without saying anything.
At that moment, the front door opened, and Calvin’s voice rang out. “I could smell dinner as soon as I walked in. It looks like Britney cooked up a feast tonight!”
