As Victor spoke, he snapped his fingers. One of the men behind him immediately stepped forward and laid a stack of documents in front of Jonathan.
Jonathan gave it a quick glance and said coolly, “And this is supposed to mean what?”
“This,” Victor said with a smile, “is my sincerity.”
Jonathan opened the folder and skimmed through it. Inside were deed transfers for several islands, as well as development rights for a few mining sites.
To an outsider, these would be unimaginable treasures. But to people like them, such things weren’t even a big deal.
Jonathan flipped through the documents without much interest, then tossed them onto the table.
He didn’t say a word, but his gesture and expression said everything.
That’s it?
Victor didn’t take offense. On the contrary, he looked even more pleased. He liked young people with pride–so long as they had the strength to back it up.
And clearly, Jonathan did.
“Of course, that’s not all,” Victor continued. “I know your side has been trying to get access to Sanovia’s oil, but the channels were always closed. I can give you the development rights to Sanovia’s oil fields. How’s that for sincerity?”
It was a tempting offer, one that could sway anyone.
Sanovia’s oil reserves were the largest in the world, and oil development was one of the Wynn family’s core industries.
Of course Jonathan wanted that access.
But there’s no such thing as a free lunch.
Victor’s offer was far too generous–nothing like the flashy, empty promises he’d made before.
What had changed overnight?
Was this really just for White’s sake?
Suppressing his suspicions, Jonathan replied calmly “You’re very generous, Mr. Victor. So what is it that you want me to do? Let White go”
He didn’t believe White was worth that much.
Sensing Jonathan’s thoughts, Victor burst into laughter.
“Young man, don’t be so hostile toward me. I truly want to be friends with you. I admire you. So think

Victor appeared utterly sincere. Anyone else would’ve already said yes.
Unfortunately for him, this was Jonathan.
And Jonathan didn’t believe a single word he said.
Chase had met with him recently and gone over Victor’s personality in detail.
Victor was a master manipulator. When he first came here, he’d been polite and gracious.
Even when Susie rejected him, he remained the picture of civility.
That was one of the reasons Chase had felt safe enough to walk away back then.
White clearly took after him–he also knew how to use whatever means necessary to reach his goals.
And Victor, as his father, was even more dangerous.
Jonathan said flatly,
“These gifts are too extravagant. I can’t accept them.”
With that, he pushed the documents back across the table.
This time, Victor’s expression shifted.
He’d thought the offer was irresistible. But Jonathan had rejected it without a second thought.
“Young people are so impulsive,” Victor muttered.
“There’s no need to rush. Why don’t you think it over? I think you should consult your elders. Their advice is often very wise.”
Jonathan raised an eyebrow.
“That’s actually a good point. Funny–word is the elders in the Victor family are all long gone. No wonder your operations are so disorganized these days.”
Now, Victor’s face truly changed.
He gave Jonathan a hard look, realizing he’d underestimated this younger man.
Some of the Victor family’s deepest secrets–how had this kid uncovered them?
Victor hadn’t managed to lead his family for so many years by being stupid. In that moment, he understood exactly what Jonathan was up to.
He let out a cold laugh.
“You’re placing your hopes on that bunch of fools? I was starting to think you were clever. Now I’m starting to think you’re just naive. Those idiots are good for nothing.”

“Who knows? Why don’t we make a bet?”
“What’s the wager?” Victor asked, not realizing he’d already been drawn into Jonathan’s rhythm.
From the start of the conversation until now, Jonathan had clearly taken control.
Jonathan answered,
“How about we wager on your son’s safety?”
