“Very well, one month it is,” Victor finally said after a pause.
It had been years since he last set foot in this country. Spending a month here didn’t sound bad.
He didn’t believe for a second that things would fall apart back home just because he was away.
“One month, then,” Jonathan replied, rising to his fect. He gave Victor a brief nod and walked out.
Back at the house, Sierra met him at the door. She’d heard the entire conversation and looked puzzled.
“Victor knows you’re planning to go after him. Why would he still show up?”
“He’s too arrogant,” Jonathan answered.
Before setting the plan in motion, he had studied Victor thoroughly.
Had this been the Victor of thirty years ago, he would’ve never agreed to such a meeting.
But the Victor of today–after decades of smooth sailing and unquestioned control over his family–no longer expected surprises.
In fact, he likely welcomed the challenge, hoping to use it to sniff out exactly who was plotting behind his back.
He still fancied himself a lion at the top of the food chain, blind to the fact that age had caught up to him. Meanwhile, the cubs he’d once looked down on had already grown their fangs and were circling, hungry for blood.
After explaining this to Sierra, Jonathan headed straight to his study.
There was still much to be done.
Victor’s sons alone weren’t enough to spark chaos. He needed to add fuel to the fire.
Meanwhile, Victor stepped into his car after parting ways with Jonathan.
Maddox was already waiting inside.
He didn’t ask how the meeting went. Instead, he simply said, “Mr. Victor, what would you like to do next?”
“Take me to the cemetery,” Victor replied. “I want to visit an old acquaintance.”
He hadn’t thought of that woman in a long time. But seeing Jonathan today brought her back to mind- the one woman he had gone to great lengths to possess.
Maddox didn’t ask further. He just gave the order to drive. His sole responsibility now was to the man in power.

Victor bought a bouquet of flowers and arrived at the cemetery, stopping in front of the tombstone Chase had erected years ago.

That didn’t feel like her. It felt more like something Wendy would’ve done.
Not that Wendy had ended up much better.
He used to think Chase loved Wendy dearly. But look at him now–he’d gone off and had a child with another woman.
She must’ve caught wind of it, which explained why she’d chosen such a final way to leave.
Victor had uncovered all these secrets over the years. He knew how Wendy died, and why Jonathan had such a distant relationship with his father.
If only Jonathan were his son. That kind of temperament suited him far more.
Suddenly intrigued, Victor spoke again. “Take me to the Wynn family cemetery.”
Maddox froze. Shocked, he said quickly, “Mr. Victor, that’s a private burial ground. We can’t enter without permission.”
Victor glanced at him with a smile.
“But I believe you’ll find a way. Right?”
Maddox’s eyes darkened. Internally, he cursed/Victor to hell. But he kept his mouth shut.
Victor leaned in and whispered, “You’ve already made your choice. Don’t hesitate now.”
Maddox drew a deep breath, then answered, “You’re right. I’ll take care of it.”
The next morning, Jonathan was having breakfast with Sierra when a call came in.
His expression changed the moment he picked up.
As soon as the call ended, he turned to Sierra with a cold face.
“Victor went to the Wynn family cemetery. Maddox took him.”
Sierra’s first reaction was disbelief–how could Maddox do such a thing?
But remembering where he now stood, she said nothing.
Maddox had officially chosen the opposite side.
She didn’t ask what Jonathan planned to do. She already knew this time he wouldn’t let it slide.
