Chapter 2

“Ugh, June-say something already!”

Ursula’s voice snapped me back to the present.

I quickly wiped the hatred from my eyes and forced my tone to sound natural.

“No problem,” I said smoothly. “I’ll head over now.”

“Yay! Long live June! Hurry up-it’s Moonkissed Bar, room 3609!”

The second she hung up, I sent a message to my Beta for a mini wiretap.

Once it arrived, I opened a mind link to Paxton.

“Hey, are you busy right now? Ursula just invited me to the bar, but it’s pretty late and… well, I’m kinda worried. Two girls

alone? It feels risky. Would you mind coming with me?”

He hesitated-long enough for me to hear it in his breath.

“Didn’t you say you’ve been too tired lately to even go out?”

I huffed, pretending to be offended.

“Oh. So you’re probably out with some other she-wolf, huh? Whatever. If you’re so busy, then never mind-I’ll just find

some handsome stranger to keep me company instead.”

That did the trick.

“No, wait! I’ll be there in thirty. I’ll pick you up.”

Right on cue, Paxton showed up at my pack house exactly thirty minutes later.

I gave him a once-over and clicked my tongue. “Seriously? You’re a grown man-at least fix your collar before showing up

at a lady’s door.”

As I reached up to smooth it for him, I slipped the bug right behind his neck.

He leaned in and kissed my cheek. “You’re the best, June.”

Asshole, my wolf growled internally.

I smiled through the nausea. I had a bigger game to play.

Just like in my last life, when we arrived at the bar, Ursula was nowhere to be found.

Paxton shifted nervously, swallowing hard. “Maybe… maybe she got held up on the way.”

I cracked open a beer with perfect composure. “Relax. We’ll drink while we wait.”

As the minutes dragged on, Paxton got more and more restless.

“Where the hell is she?” he muttered, pulling out his phone. “She promised she’d be here. Did something go wrong?”

I ignored him and started mixing a new drink like I had all the time in the world.

*June, you stay here,” he finally said, shoving his chair back. “I’m gonna go look for her.”

“I’ll come too,” I offered innocently. “She’s my sister-in-law, after all. She’s also our Luna. If something really happened to

her, Tristan would kill me.”

“No,” Paxton said quickly, throwing his hand up. “Just stay put. You’ve had a few drinks, and if something really did

happen, I can’t worry about you both.”

He didn’t even wait for a reply before storming out of the room.

I smirked. Too eager, aren’t they?

I finished the rest of my drink, licked the salt from my fingers, then picked up my phone.

“Hello? Pack Enforcers? There’s been a sexual assault at Moonkissed Bar. A she-wolf’s been dragged into a private room.”

My left hand trembled with anticipation as I ended the call.

Time to set the rest of the trap.

I sent out a group alert to my parents-and to Tristan, still up north.

[Ursula’s in trouble. Moonkissed Bar. Urgent. Get here now.]

The bar Ursula picked was barely ten minutes from the pack’s territory-exactly what I needed to make sure they’d all get

here in time.

Not even eight minutes later, my parents arrived, weapons in hand, followed by a dozen pack members armed to the teeth.

Then came a mind-link message from Tristan. “Keep me updated. I’m on my way back.”

My mother looked pale, her voice shaky. “Where is she? What happened to Ursula?”

I buried the thrill rising in my chest and put on my best terrified face.

“T-Two guys dragged her into a private room,” I stammered. “I tried to stop them, but one of them was too strong. He shoved me down and scratched me-”

I yanked up my sleeve, revealing the deep, bloody marks I’d made earlier.

Gasps echoed around me. Wolves snarled low in their throats, fangs already showing. The rage was a wildfire ready to ignite.

My father stepped forward, his eyes glowing red, voice low and dangerous. “Enough. Where is she?”

I pointed down the hallway. “Room 3609. That way.”

Tonight’s hunt was only just beginning.
