Chapter 12
Two months later, Yasmin was pregnant. When she found out about her pregnancy, she finally felt at ease.
She eagerly went to Zachary with the pregnancy test results to tell him the good news. “Zachary, you’ll be
a dad soon!”
Impassively, Zachary took the test kit from her and gently brushed his fingers against it.
“You don’t seem happy?” Yasmin spoke as she looped her arms around his neck. “Melanie’s long gone. Are you perhaps thinking about her again?”
Zachary’s grip around her waist tightened slightly. “Don’t overthink it. It doesn’t do the baby any good.”
After coaxing Yasmin, he told her that he had scheduled a prenatal checkup for the day after tomorrow.
He would take her to the hospital himself when the time came.
As night fell, Zachary went to the balcony and lit up a cigarette.
The smoke swirled around him as Melanie appeared in his mind again.
Melanie hadn’t contacted him after she had gone abroad.
He had heard from Kevin that Melanie was now residing in Alyvill, so he told Kevin to update him with a
photo of her every day.
Just as he was deep in thought, he received a new photo.
Zachary tapped on the photo. It showed Melanie feeding a kitten at the roadside, the gentle glow of the
sunlight tracing the outline of her figure.
He gently touched the phone screen.
All this while, he hadn’t gone to look for Melanie-not because he didn’t miss her, but simply because he
wasn’t done with his plan.
Zachary was fully aware that if he were to go to Melanie now, he could only offer an apology that meant
nothing to her. He couldn’t do anything to make it up to her.
He would only have the right to show up in front of Melanie again after he got rid of all the people who
had hurt her.
Two days later, Kevin came to pick Yasmin up for her prenatal checkup.
On their way to the location, Yasmin was on a call with her best friend, and she couldn’t help grinning from ear to ear.
“I hope it’s a boy. That way, he can take over the business when he grows up and help to ease Zachary’s

burden.”
Kevin saw her smiling through the rearview mirror, and a look of sympathy flickered in his eyes.
After a long while, the car stopped in front of a building.
“Mrs. Fuller, we’ve arrived.”
Yasmin looked out into the empty street through the car window, and the smile on her face stiffened. “Is this the hospital?”
“Yes. Mr. Fuller has personally contacted a private hospital for you.”
With a calm expression, Kevin opened the car door for Yasmin and led her into the building in front of
them.
Yasmin hadn’t given it much thought at first, but the strange feeling she felt deep down grew stronger as
they walked further into the building.
It was so quiet in the hospital that it felt somewhat eerie and terrifying.
Just as Yasmin mulled things over, Kevin brought her into a consultation room. “Mrs. Fuller, rest here for a bit. I’ll get the doctor.”
Yasmin swept her gaze around the room. Just then, she heard the sound of the door being locked.
A foreboding feeling rose within her, and she dashed toward the door. “Why did you lock the door?”
As soon as she asked that, the ceiling above her cracked open, and buckets of stinky, foul water rained
over her.
Yasmin shrieked, covering her head in terror.
She collapsed in the pool of foul water, hands trembling as she fished out her phone to call Zachary.
After a brief beep, the call was connected.
“Zachary, it’s me!” Yasmin’s voice was trembling, and she was on the verge of breaking down. “Kevin locked me up. Tell him to let me out!”
The person on the other end fell silent for a brief moment.
Then, Zachary’s cold voice rang out. “I’m the one who had you locked up, not him.”
“What?”

“You lied to me about having a terminal illness and accused Melanie of harming you. She had a miscarriage because of that.” Zachary enunciated each word. “Now, I want you to know how it feels to lose your own child.”
Yasmin stood rooted to the spot and couldn’t believe what she had just heard.
Did Zachary find out that she had set Melanie up? When did he discover that?
remind you of your filthy sins.
“You suggested locking Melanie up for three days. And now, I’ll do the same to you. I’ll have someone pick you up in three days.”
“Zachary Fuller, are you out of your mind?” Yasmin widened her eyes in fear. “There’s nothing here. How am I supposed to stay in here for three days? This is murder! You’re committing a crime!”
“A crime?” Zachary sneered. “You’ve done worse to Melanie, haven’t you?”
With that, he ended the call without hesitation.
Yasmin tried to call Zachary, but she could no longer reach him.
Then, she called the others, but the line wasn’t in service. Her phone’s signal had been completely cut off.
“Let me out!” Yasmin screamed miserably.
Yet, her voice was blocked completely from the outside, and not even a single sound could escape.
