The day I was discharged, Ethan said he wanted to throw a small celebration and hired a private chef at th
mansion.
Halfway through dinner preparations, the doorbell rang.
Jake was back.
He brought a girl with him-sweet-looking and innocent-the “college freshman” he’d mentioned.
‘Brother, sister-in-law,” Jake said with his arm around the girl’s shoulder, smiling proudly. “Let me introduc you to my girlfriend, Emma.”
Emma gave me a shy smile, but her gaze lingered on my “husband” Ethan’s face for a moment.
At the dinner table, Jake and Emma were affectionate, acting like they owned the place.
Ethan remained silent throughout, cutting his steak with elegant movements that somehow radiated a cold ness that kept everyone at a distance.
Suddenly Emma looked at me with feigned concern: “Sister-in-law, I heard you lost your memory? Have you
ecovered a bit now?”
‘Have you noticed… any differences in your husband from before your memory loss?”
I saw both Jake and Ethan pause almost imperceptibly.
One curious, one nervous.
I put down my knife and fork, looked up, and let a timely blush spread across my face.
“I’ve recovered some memories recently. Now that you mention it, I have noticed my husband has changed a
bit.”
I deliberately paused, seeing Jake’s lips already starting to curl upward.

“I remember he used to be… not this good in bed.”
“Clank.”
Jake’s utensils dropped straight onto his plate, making a jarring noise.
His face instantly changed from smug satisfaction to a sickly shade.
Beside me, Ethan’s fingers tightened around his wine glass, his Adam’s apple moving almost imperceptibly.
