Chapter 10
Viola Sinclair was one of the few people who actually knew the real reason Noah Carter and I broke up.
She had never liked Noah much to begin with, and as for Elise Simmons–she never even tried to hide her disdain.
She looped her arm through mine and scoffed: “Who even are you? Since when do you think you and Mint are close? Why should she have to tell you anything?”
Elise’s smile faltered instantly.
She instinctively looked to Noah, as if expecting him–like so many times before–to speak up for her.
But from the moment we ran into each other, it was as if Noah had lost his soul.
He hadn’t said a single word, but his gaze had never left my face–not even for a second.
Viola rolled her eyes, pulled me by the arm, and turned to leave.
“Let’s go. Let’s find somewhere else. I’ve completely lost my appetite.”
To be honest, I could tell that between the two of us, she seemed even more unwilling to face Noah than I was.
But Noah…he was far more persistent than either of us had expected.
Not long after we left, he followed us in his car.
While we ate, his vehicle remained parked quietly across the street.
I recognized it immediately–not because of the make or model, but because of the license plate. The last four digits were 0809–our birthday.
Through the window, I could see him sitting in the driver’s seat, but he never got out. Never came closer.
He just sat there like a statue, completely still.
But his gaze–it cut straight through the glass, fixed on me.
My brows furrowed slightly. A strange heaviness settled in my chest.
Even after dinner, he followed us at the same steady distance–never far, never close.
By the time we got to the hotel, I finally had enough.
I got out of the car and walked toward that all–too–familiar SUV.
I knocked on the driver’s side window.
“Noah Carter, you do realize stalking someone is illegal, right?”
The window slowly rolled down.
He looked up at me, his eyes bloodshot.

But this time, the light in them wasn’t warm–it was shattered. Desperate.
His voice was hoarse, like he was forcing the words out through gritted teeth.
“Mint Bennett, you’re really cruel.”
I froze.
Because Noah was crying.
