It wasn’t that serious.
After some thought, I still ended up buying a bouquet and heading to the hospital.
Noah’s hospital room was easy to find.
Just before I knocked, I heard Elise’s voice from inside.
“How long are you going to keep tormenting yourself over her?! She doesn’t even care about you! You’ve been sick for days–has she come to see you even once?!”
“That’s none of your business.”
Noah’s voice was cold and detached.
Elise sounded both angry and frustrated.
That was when my knock sounded on the door.
She turned and saw me, her brows immediately furrowing.
“Mint? What are you doing here?”
Noah froze, then quickly lifted his gaze.
There were a few other people in the room–strangers to me, probably colleagues from his lab.
After hearing Elise’s outburst, they all turned their eyes toward me.
“Is this the Mint Noah keeps talking about?”
“Yeah, she’s the one who made him sick.”
I ignored the curious stares around me, walked into the room, and placed the bouquet gently on the table.
“I heard you weren’t well, so I came to check on you.”
That mutual friend had been right. Noah and I hadn’t drifted so far apart that we’d become total strangers.
We’d grown up together, after all.
And now that I had already moved on from the past and built a new life, there was no reason to stay hung up on Noah.
If we could be friends, that would be the best. If not, I wouldn’t regret it.
Coming here today was simply a way to bring closure to our shared past.
