I stared back at her coldly.
I still remembered what Elise had once said to me-
“You only got where you are because of your background. You were lucky enough to grow up with Noah.”
“But if you’d been born like me, you wouldn’t be the one standing beside him.”
I realized she had feelings for Noah during our senior year.
It started when Noah lost a notebook–not anything important, just a random sketchpad.
But he’d scribbled all over it things like ‘Noah will always be with Mint.‘
Later, I found that notebook…in Elise’s possession.
The only change was that my name had been violently crossed out,
and hers had been written in its place.
After I discovered it, she no longer bothered to hide her hostility.
“If I have enough time to stay by Noah’s side, he’ll fall for me too.”
She had made up her mind early on–she was going to apply to the same university as Noah.
But after she found out about the agreement Noah and I had made, she broke her leg three months before the SATS.
To this day, I still don’t know if it was an accident or not.
I just know that afterward, Noah became so worried about her falling behind that he started tutoring her constantly.
Every night, whenever she messaged him crying about how she might not do well on the test, he stayed up comforting her.
When the SATs were over, Elise missed the Harvard cutoff by a single point.
She sobbed like her world had collapsed.
Everyone felt sorry for her, including Noah.
That night, he told me,
“Mint, Elise needs this spot more than you do.”
I had tried to tell Noah there was something strange about the whole situation.
But by then, he was completely caught up in Elise.
He even told me,
