Chapter 2
The moment she sent the text, her phone rang. “Miss Smith, you finally remembered me?”
Sophia ignored his mockery and spoke flatly, “First, help me process immigration paperwork. Second, cancel all my domestic identity records. You have one week. Complete these two tasks, and half the shares of Miller Corp and Smith Enterprises are yours.”
Sophia knew that with Ethan’s personality, he would never easily agree to divorce and let her leave.
So she needed someone who could restrain him after she left. His sworn enemy, Caleb Williams, was the perfect choice.
After leaving Miller Corp, Sophia went to a law firm to draft divorce papers, then took a taxi home.
As soon as she entered, she was pulled into an embrace. “Baby, where did you go? Why didn’t you answer your phone? You don’t know how scared I was when I couldn’t find you. Don’t leave me-I really can’t live without you.”
The panic in Ethan’s eyes seemed genuine.
For a moment, Sophia remembered a previous fight when she had gone abroad with friends to clear her head.
Ethan, thinking she was leaving him for good, crashed his car while speeding to the airport but still managed to stop her flight.
She could still clearly remember him kneeling at her feet, covered in blood, begging with red eyes.
He said, “Baby, please don’t leave me. I’ll really die without you…”
He loved her so much, was so afraid of her leaving.
Yet he still hurt her again and again for Isabella’s sake!
Sophia gently pushed him away and took out several papers from her bag. “I just went shopping. There’s a document that needs your signature.”
Without even looking, Ethan took out a pen and signed his name.
Sophia was stunned. “Aren’t you going to read it?”
“No need. On our wedding day, I said that whatever you want, even if it costs me my life, I’ll get it for you.” His eyes were sincere, his tone solemn.
Sophia clutched the divorce papers, silently curving her lips. She had gotten what she wanted most.
Ethan didn’t notice her expression. “Baby, go take a shower. I’m making vegetable soup for you-it’ll be ready soon.”
Half an hour later, while Sophia was changing clothes, the bedroom door suddenly burst open.
“Oh, sis, why are there so many scars on your back? When Ethan sleeps with you, doesn’t he find them disgusting and off-putting?” Isabella held up her phone with a shocked expression, though her eyes were full of malice.
Three months ago, when Sophia was horseback riding, Isabella had deliberately moved into the path of her whip and got injured on the shoulder.
Before Sophia could even leave the stables, she was pressed into the filthy horse pen and whipped ninety-nine times!
Chapter 2
Remembering that heart wrenching pain, Sophia clenched her fists
“Delete the photos and get out! She reached for Isabella’s phone.
Just then, familiar footsteps approached from outside.
A vicious gleam flashed in Isabella’s eyes. She grabbed the soup from the table and poured it on herself, her fair arm instantly turning red from the burns.
With tears in her eyes, she looked at the approaching figure. “Ethan, I’m sorry, I said something wrong and made sis
angry.”
However, Ethan didn’t even glance at her. He had the servants take Isabella away.
He looked at Sophia with concern. “Baby, are you burned? Even if you hate her, don’t do such dangerous things!”
Before he could finish, Sophia cut him off sharply, “It wasn’t me! Ethan, I didn’t pour soup on her. You can check the
surveillance!”
She tried desperately to control her emotions.
But those nightmare-like punishments and the bone-deep pain made her fingers tremble uncontrollably.
Ethan paused, then gripped her hand and placed it over his heart. “No need to check. Whatever you say, I believe,”
He held her hand, soothing her repeatedly.
After a long while, Sophia looked up. “Do you really believe me?”
“Of course.” Ethan kissed her forehead. “Sleep now. I have some work to finish, then I’ll come back to be with you.”
He tucked her in and left.
Just as Sophia was about to fall asleep, the bedroom door was suddenly kicked open.
She opened her eyes in panic, and before she could react, a towel was pressed over her nose and mouth…
