Chapter 6

Meeting the man’s reddened eyes, Sophia’s memory gradually returned.

After a few seconds of silence, she spoke calmly, “You told me yourself.”

But her weak voice was drowned out by Isabella’s crying. “I’m sorry, Ethan. She hit me first, so Dad had her locked up. It’s all my fault. I shouldn’t have had a birthday party. If you want to blame someone, blame me…”

Seeing Isabella’s swollen face, Ethan released Sophia, the heartache in his eyes replaced by helplessness. “Sophia, you already have everything. Why do you still bully her? Why won’t you listen to me?”

Suddenly, Sophia laughed, her eyes red. “What? I slapped her once, so you’re going to slap me ninety-nine times? Or destroy my other hand?”

By the end, her voice was hoarse to the extreme, as if each word was written in blood.

Ethan was stunned. “Sophia…”

An unease suddenly rose in his heart, and he instinctively reached out to hold her.

But she stepped back to avoid him. “Don’t follow me.”

Sophia pushed past him, staggering out of the Smith house. Rain poured down, wind and water lashing her mercilessly, soaking her thin clothes instantly. She walked on expressionlessly, blood mixing with rainwater as it hit the pavement.

She walked for what felt like forever, her consciousness growing hazier until everything went black and she collapsed.

When Sophia woke up again, her wounds had been bandaged.

Ethan sat by the bed, his eyes frighteningly red. Seeing her awake, he finally relaxed.

He gripped her hand tightly. “Baby, how do you feel? Is there anywhere else that hurts?”

His voice trembled, his face full of panic, as if terrified of losing her.

But Sophia remained silent throughout.

She looked at him like he was a stranger…

Ethan’s eyes immediately reddened. He leaned closer, carefully holding her hand. “The bracelet mix-up was the auction house’s mistake-that’s why it ended up with Isabella. And I don’t believe her over you. I’m just afraid you’ll be targeted for revenge again. I know I was wrong. Please don’t ignore me, okay?”

Sophia withdrew her hand, her voice hoarse. “I’m tired. I want to rest.”

The emptiness in his palm sent unprecedented panic through Ethan-like he’d lost something irreplaceable.

But seeing Sophia’s closed eyes, he could only suppress his unease. “Alright, rest then. Call me if you need anything.”

Ethan canceled all his work for the next few days, staying by her side constantly like before. She heard Isabella’s tearful voice messages several times, but Ethan ignored them all.

Chapter 6

Sophia’s cold attitude made Ethan increasingly volatile, leaving everyone walking on eggshells around this demon.

Until one day, while Sophia was trimming flowers in the garden, she slipped and nearly fell. A gardener quickly caught her

arm.

But before she could steady herself, Ethan suddenly appeared and punched the man to the ground,

He pinned the gardener down, hitting him repeatedly until his head was bloody. “Who gave you the nerve to touch my

woman!”

The next moment, Sophia rushed over and slapped Ethan hard. “Stop it! Ethan, isn’t hurting me enough? Now you won’t

even spare the people around me?”

Her strength wasn’t great, but Ethan froze in place, his eyes immediately reddening. “You’ve been so cold to me these past days, barely saying a word, and now you’re hitting me for another man…”

Sophia laughed coldly. “Do you really not know why I’m being cold to you?”

Meeting her clear black and white eyes, Ethan panicked and fled.

The next day, he brought Isabella to her. “Sophia, she’s here to apologize for what happened at the birthday party. You two

talk-I’ll go make you some soup.”

After giving the woman beside him a meaningful look, he strode out.

Sophia didn’t believe for a second that Isabella would humble herself.

Sophia said, “What are you really here for?”

“Stop pretending!” Isabella’s eyes were bloodshot. “Didn’t you make Ethan pressure me with the company to force me to

apologize?”

Sophia paused slightly.

Ethan had actually been willing to pressure Isabella to make her apologize?

But before she could explain it wasn’t her doing, Isabella suddenly stepped closer, her eyes flashing with madness. “Sophia, do you think Ethan really loves you? Let me tell you the truth-he’s the one who hurt you those 98 times! He’s the

one protecting me! Guess what he’ll do to you if I almost die by your hand this time?”

Then her expression changed, and she began pleading shrilly. “Sis, I really know I was wrong! I didn’t seduce your

husband! Please don’t kill me!”

Just as the door opened, she grabbed Sophia’s hand and plunged a knife into her own stomach.

The next moment, an angry roar erupted from behind. “Sophia, what are you doing?!”
