Chapter 9
Ethan’s mind buzzed as he opened it with trembling hands, and seeing his own signature, he stood frozen like he’d been
struck by lightning.
How was this possible! When had he signed divorce papers?!
In a daze, he suddenly remembered a week ago, when Sophia had returned home after being punished and asked him to sign a document.
He remembered the conversation he’d had with his friends in the office that day.
Ethan’s heart contracted sharply, and he hastily called his assistant. “Check when Sophia last came to the company!”
The assistant paused before responding, “Let me check… The receptionist says Mrs. Miller did come to the company a
week ago, and she looked very upset when she left.”
Hearing this, Ethan’s last bit of hope completely crumbled! Sophia had known all along-she knew he was Isabella’s
obsessive admirer and that he was the one who had people hurt her repeatedly.
All of Sophia’s strange behavior during this time finally made sense.
No wonder she had become increasingly cold;
No wonder she remained unmoved even when he was injured;
No wonder those eyes that once held so much love had become so empty and lifeless;
But he had never noticed, even feeling smug that he had successfully deceived her.
Ethan’s voice was hoarse. “Find out where my wife went. Use every connection we have. I need to know immediately!”
This time, the assistant didn’t agree right away, his voice hesitant. “Mr. Miller, many of our key projects are now in Caleb’s
hands. You should come to the company…”
Before he could finish, Ethan angrily interrupted, “I said find out where my wife went! I only want to know where Sophia is!”
After hanging up, he slumped onto the sofa, clutching his hair in prolonged silence. He kept trying to think of where
Sophia might go, but no matter how hard he thought, he couldn’t come up with anything.
Sophia’s mother had died long ago, and her relationship with Robert had been strained because of Isabella and her
mother.
He really didn’t know where else she could go.
Just then, a strange thought suddenly occurred to him. Since Sophia had known the truth all along, why would she continue bullying Isabella, even trying to stab her with a knife?
Unless… it was all Isabella’s self-directed performance!
Ethan gripped his phone tightly, unable to bring himself to check the surveillance. He didn’t know how he could face Sophia if Isabella really had framed her-what right would he have to beg for her forgiveness?

But in the end, he gritted his teeth and pulled up the surveillance video.
When he saw Isabella screaming as she plunged the knife into her own stomach, while he had questioned Sophia without distinguishing right from wrong, even pushing her down so her head hit the corner and bled all over the floor, his heart felt like it was being crushed by a giant hand, making even breathing painful.
He couldn’t imagine how disappointed Sophia must have been to leave without saying a word.
Ethan raised his hand and slapped himself hard.
Blood trickled from the corner of his mouth, but he paid no attention, grabbing his keys and rushing to the hospital.
Ethan ran countless red lights on the way.
Just as he reached the hospital room door, he heard Isabella’s voice inside. “Sophia actually sold her shares?! That bitch!
This time I’ll make sure Ethan kills her!”
Her voice had none of the softness she showed him, instead carrying a disgusting malice.
Ethan stopped pushing the door.
Through the crack, he saw Elizabeth sitting nearby, looking worried. “Isabella, are you confused? How could Ethan help
If us? Last time when Sophia was locked up, he went crazy and beat up those bodyguards. Let’s not provoke her anymore. she wants to sell, let her sell. Your father has already said the remaining Smith family shares will all go to you!”
Hearing this, Isabella couldn’t help but sneer. “Mom! You don’t need to be afraid. Let me tell you the truth-that obsessive admirer everyone’s talking about is Ethart! When I was ten, I tricked Sophia into going to that abandoned building. I originally wanted her to be kidnapped by human traffickers, but unexpectedly she accidentally saved the kidnapped Ethan. Fortunately, Ethan mistook me for his savior…”
Ethan stood frozen, as if he’d fallen into an ice cave.
The person who saved him back then was actually Sophia?!
What had he done…
He had hurt her again and again for someone who had bullied Sophia, even nearly taking her life!
Rage instantly consumed Ethan as he watched Isabella smugly describe framing Sophia and orchestrating her repeated punishments.
He clenched his fists tightly, veins bulging at his temples, and kicked open the ward door.
