Chapter 18

The next day, Sophia didn’t see Ethan again.

Instead, a young woman named Emily Brown came daily to clean and prepare her three meals.

Originally, she wanted to use this opportunity to escape, but there were over a dozen bodyguards at the door.

So she could only temporarily abandon this idea and maintain her normal routine while looking for another chance.

That evening, as Sophia finished dinner and headed to her room to read, she heard a whooshing sound behind her and

instinctively turned sideways-a white porcelain bowl grazed her forehead before smashing on the ground, scattering

shards everywhere.

She turned around in shock to see Emily glaring at her resentfully. “Mr. Miller burned himself and spent the whole night in

ice water for you! He was rushed to the hospital this morning for emergency treatment! Not only do you not care at all, you

even have the mood to eat here! How can you be so heartless?!”

Sophia frowned in confusion. “What’s your relationship with Ethan?”

Emily was silent for a moment before slowly speaking, “Mr. Miller mistook me for you and saved me from some thugs. He

loves you so much and treats you so well. Don’t you feel even a little heartache seeing him hurt?!”

Sophia suddenly laughed. “Why should I feel heartache? The pain he’s experiencing now is a hundred times less than

what he put me through!”

Emily was speechless for a moment before squeezing out, “But he already knows he was wrong! He nearly died trying to

get your forgiveness!”

“So what? Just because he knows he was wrong means I have to forgive him?” Sophia’s smile faded, her face turning completely cold. “If you think deception, sleeping with other women, and nearly killing someone for another woman’s sake isn’t a big deal, then I wish you marry a man just like that someday.”

The girl’s face flushed red with anger, and she raised her hand to hit Sophia.

But the next moment, her wrist was firmly gripped.

Ethan’s voice was cold. “Who gave you the nerve to touch Sophia!”

Ever since he saved Emily that time, she had been clinging to him, wanting to repay his kindness, even following him abroad.

So when he was injured yesterday, he had her come take care of Sophia.

But he never expected Emily’s idea of “repaying kindness” would be to hurt his Sophia!

Thinking of this, unprecedented disgust rose in his heart as he violently shook her off.

Emily fell hard to the ground, her eyes immediately reddening as if she’d suffered a great injustice. “Mr. Miller, I just can’t stand seeing her not love you at all! You shouldn’t keep hurting yourself for her-it’s not worth it!”

But Ethan remained unmoved by her words. “Even if Sophia wanted my life, I’d give it willingly. Get out and don’t let me see

you again!”

Meeting the man’s cold eyes, Emily’s tears finally fell as she covered her face and ran out.

Ethan helped Sophia to the sofa.

Then he got the first aid kit and knelt in front of her.

Perhaps because he’d aggravated his wounds, his face was slightly pale, but he only looked at her with heartache.

His voice was strained. “I’m sorry, Sophia. I let you get hurt again…”

Only then did Sophia notice the small cut on her calf from the flying porcelain shards.

Ethan’s eyes were full of self-blame, but Sophia paid it no mind.

Her dark gaze fell on the nearby porcelain pieces as a plan suddenly formed in her mind.

While Ethan was putting away the first aid kit, she rushed over and quickly grabbed the largest shard.

She pointed the sharp edge at the stunned man. “Let me go! Ethan!”
