Chapter 6
When I returned home with my daughter, Felix suddenly sat up from the sofa and I reflexively stepped back.
He swallowed hard and whispered, “I’m sorry for scaring you.
”
“Where have you been for the past month? I came every day to wait for you, but never saw you.”
I answered, “Felix, you can’t even lie properly. I wasn’t home, but the security camera at the door isn’t just for show.”
‘If you have something to say, say it. If not, get out.”
He moved closer to me again, reaching out to hug our daughter, but I dodged him.
‘Helena, you can’t be so cruel. I’m her biological father. We’re not even divorced yet. What right do you have to deny me the right to see her?”
He was indeed my arch-enemy, always able to stir up the anger in my heart. But I didn’t want tc scare my daughter, so I lowered my voice.
‘Felix, if
you don’t get out of here, I’ll call security.”
He was about to continue pestering me, but the phone rang suddenly.
‘Felix, where are you going? I just fell and my stomach hurts. Can you come back?”
n an instant, he vanished from my sight.
He really was worried about Gwen.
When I was pregnant with our daughter, I also accidentally slipped and fell in the bathroom. I rembled as I dialled his number, only to hear his cold response.
‘I’m not a doctor. What do you want from me?”
‘If you fell, call 119 immediately! Are you trying to murder our child?”
His words left me speechless. After a moment, I managed to reply, “I already did.”
Then he hung up the phone without another word.
Now, however, I saw worry on his face for Gwen and her child.
How ironic! The one he married legally was no match for the one he hides away, the one worthy of pity.
When Felix rushed to Gwen’s rental apartment, she sat on the sofa watching a TV series.
Felix checked her over from head to toe and ensured she was okay before letting her go.
She gave him a smug look. “Are you worried about me?”
Felix remembered something and suddenly pulled her up, trying to take her outside.
“You said you fell down. How can we not go to the hospital?”
Gwen held him back. “Felix, I’m really fine. I just don’t want you to stay by Helena’s side.”
Felix let go of her and furrowed his brows.
I would never make such a boring joke. Even though I was pregnant, I was so considerate and never caused my husband any worry.
