“No way,” I look up at the sound of a man’s voice and instantly feel the blood drain from my body. “The woman, the myth, the legend. Violetta Wilde,”
“Alpha Barnes,” I jump up and lower my head. I’ve never met this man in person, but he’s not friendly. “Am I trespassing?”
“A little, but you’re good,” he laughs. “What are you doing here?”
“Just stopped for a drink,” I say, glancing over at my empty glass. “I can go. If my brother knew I was on claimed territory. He’ll kill me,”
“You’re fine, Violetta. The bar is neutral territory. Are you here with your human?”
“He’s not my human. I just work for him,” I shake my head. I mean, if he belonged to any supernatural, it would be me. He just doesn’t know that, and neither should this man.
“He know that?” his eyes flash red.
“He has a girlfriend. I’m not- I love my job. That’s it,” I clear my throat. Why am I explaining myself to this douche?
“Mind if I take a seat? What are you drinking?”
“Not at all, sir. I’m not sure. The bartender made it for me,” I say nervously.
Holy shit. Why is this alpha talking to me? He waves his hand in the direction of the bar, and I’m struggling to exist at the moment. The last thing I want is for my brother to catch wind of this interaction and get him in trouble with our father, or worse, he tries something and I have to kill
him.
“There is no need for formalities, Violetta. We’re just two people who know about each other at a bar. You can call me by my name.”
“I don’t actually know your name, sir.”
“Arsenial, but everyone calls me Arsen.”
“I’m going to be honest, Alpha Barnes. It feels very disrespectful to call you anything other than your title.” I feel my heart start to race. I need to get the hell out of here and now. This is very dangerous for the two of us. The bartender comes over, sets two drinks before us, and takes my empty glass.
“Back already, Arsen?” she asks him.
He smirks and waves her off. It;s the kind of smirk an asshole like Silas would give a one night stand upon seeing her again. I see it. She’s a cute little omega; most alphas can’t help themselves. Not even the mated ones. It’s what omegas are designed for. Alpha-bait.

Chapter 6
“Oh, shit,” I reach for my things.
11
This is an unmated Wolves club. I’ve read about these. What are the fucking odds of me crash- landing here tonight? I need to catch up on all things Magique now that I’m back. I need notes, maps, and preparation. What the hell was I thinking just coming back here like I own the place? I mean, I do, but it’s been a long time.
“You okay?”
“I’m sorry,” I say, tucking my bag under my arm as I place the fifty-dollar bill on the table. “I didn’t know this place was for unmated wolves. I seem to have given you the wrong impression, Alpha Barnes. I should go.”
“Wait,” he reaches out over the table to grip my wrist.
I rip my arm out of his grasp when a tingling sensation shoots through my body. He looks just as spooked as I feel when our eyes meet again. I take a step back, eyeing my phone in front of him, and decide that I could have a brand new one before the Wolfe Tech store near my apartment closes.
“I’m sorry,” I spin around and try to break for the door. I’m almost there when an arm wraps around my waist and a hand covers my mouth.
“You need to calm down,” he growls in my ear when I all but scream bloody murder. He turns me around and tucks me into the corner near the exit. His body is pressed against mine, and my wolf responds to his. “Okay, we panicked,” he’s panting. He’s so very close. “You know exactly what’s happening, Violetta. You know I can’t just let you walk out that door.”
I stare back at him, not knowing what to do. In the sixteen years that I’ve had my wolf, I have never considered the possibility of having a fated. There aren’t enough wolves in Magique City for that, and I only know a handful of people who it’s happened to.
There are two main packs here in the city. My brother runs one, and this man runs the other. We hide it among mortals because of the new registration laws, and we’re not allowed to venture into their mini-villages in the city. If anyone spots me here with him, Zander is going to think something is up. Fuck. Fuck. Fuck. Fuck. Fuck.
“I can’t deal with this.” I place my hand on his chest. “Not tonight. I’m not ready. This isn’t happening.”
I almost regret the words as soon as I get them out. The hurt in his expression begs me to take it back, but he takes a step back and releases me. Are we on the same page?
“This ain’t exactly a choice anymore, Baby,” he says without meeting my eyes.
“Alpha Barnes-” I try to reach for him, but then jump back when he growls at me.
“You belong to me now, Violetta Wilde. You’re mine. If you let any other man touch you, I’ll end
him. Do you understand?” His hands slam on either side of me, and I find myself nodding. He steps back again, his eyes still on mine. “I’ll walk you to your car. You go straight home, yes?”

“Yes,” I squeak. He grips my arm, leads me out of the bar, and takes me to the parking lot next to the building.
“Which one of these is yours?” he demands.
“The Bentley, sir,” I choke out.
“Fuck,” he scoffs under his breath and starts pushing me to my pearl-pink car.
I unlock it before we get to it, and he grunts his approval as he opens the door for me. I don’t struggle against him as he pushes me inside. He takes in the soft pink glittery and fuzzy accessories and sighs heavily before looking me dead in the eyes.
“You’re all kinds of spoiled, aren’t you, Violetta?” he says defeatedly. “The alpha’s daughter.”
“I work hard, sir. I deserve everything I have, down to the custom rims on this thing.” I roll my eyes at him. The alpha’s daughter. Huh, what a fucking joke. More like the alpha’s ruin. His head tilts as
he takes me in and smiles.
“Yes, you do,” he agrees. “Don’t make me come looking for you, Flower,” he tucks my hair behind my ear. “You make me fiend for you, and I’ll make you cry. I don’t want to do that, baby. Something tells me you’ve had enough of that already.”
