Chapter 23

It seemed that Zac and his friends all believed the same thing-that no matter how badly he treated Liz, she would never leave

him.

Thinking about it now, it was almost laughable.

Rick shook his head and said nothing more. He turned and walked out.

Jane waved at the two male escorts. “You two can head out.”

Soon, only Jane and Liz were left in the private booth.

Seeing how calm Liz looked, with no trace of emotion on her face, Jane opened her arms and said, “Come here, sweetheart. If you feel like crying, my arms are always open.’

Liz had been feeling a little down, but Jane’s over-the-top gesture made her want to laugh.

“I’ll admit, when he asked if I was really sure about the breakup, I did feel a pang in my chest. But that was it.

“I might still feel sad for a while, but I’m not going back.”

Rather than marry Zac and spend a lifetime tearing each other apart, she would rather face this temporary heartbreak.

Seeing the quiet resolve in her eyes, Jane finally relaxed and raised a brow. “As long as you’ve thought it through.”

After all that drama Zac stirred up tonight, neither of them was in the mood to party anymore.

And judging by Liz’s expression, she didn’t want to stay here either.

“It’s getting late. Let’s head back,” Jane suggested.

Liz nodded. “Yeah.”

The two of them grabbed their bags and left.

On the other side of the building, Rick found Zac and Jeff in the parking lot.

When Zac heard footsteps, he looked up and frowned when he saw Rick.

As if sensing what was on his mind, Rick spoke first. “Liz and Jane already left.”

Zac’s expression darkened. His voice was cold. “We’ve broken up. Her business has nothing to do with me anymore. You don’t need to report back.”

Rick hesitated for a moment, but still said, “Zac… I don’t think Liz was joking this time. She really meant it when she said she wanted to break up.”

Zac let out a cold laugh and crushed out his cigarette. “Whether she’s serious or not doesn’t matter. She’s the one who said it. No matter how hard she begs later, there’s no way I’m taking her back.”

With that, he yanked open the car door, started the engine, and drove off.

Only when the black Maybach disappeared around the corner did Jeff finally scratch his head and turn to Rick. “I don’t get it. What’s with that attitude? Does Zac actually want to break up with Liz or not?

“I mean, he doesn’t love her anymore, right? She finally took the initiative and ended things. Shouldn’t he be happy about it?

“But just now, he didn’t look happy at all. He looked pissed. Like, really pissed.”

Rick shook his head. “I don’t know either. But at this rate, I doubt that wedding’s happening anytime soon.

“And judging by the way Zac acted tonight, I don’t think he’s as over Liz as he claims.”

In fact, Rick believed Zac’s cold attitude had always come from a sense of entitlement. He thought Liz loved him too much to ever leave, so he never bothered to hold back.

But now, if Liz had truly made up her mind to walk away, would Zac still be as smug and self-assured as before?

Zac drove straight to Xena’s apartment complex. After parking, he went upstairs and knocked.

The moment the door opened, he grabbed the back of her head and kissed her hard.

It was a rough, desperate kiss-like he was trying to consume her whole.

Xena caught the faint scent of alcohol on him and began to wonder what had happened that night.

Just as she finally managed to push him away, she started to speak. “Mr. Lincoln, what’s going on-❞

But before she could finish, his lips were on hers again.
