Chapter 327

“When I talked to her this morning,” Carter said, “I realized… there were details-even I didn’t know. And yet, she knew them.”

Julliard’s gaze deepened. “Maybe she knew… she couldn’t hold onto that 100 million. So she’d already decided to donate it and turn it into a way forward for herself.

“Besides… let’s be honest. Nate’s plan wasn’t exactly clever. It was sloppy. Full of holes.

“I think we underestimated Sharon. She’s no helpless little lamb like we thought.”

If it had been Carter and Julliard handling this themselves, there never would’ve been so many mistakes. But Carter had always disdained such cheap tricks, and Julliard simply wasn’t the type to hurt others. Neither of them had ever stepped in.

Carter’s black eyes were like still water over black ice. “She’s got skill. She’s smart. No denying that. But…”

Julliard glanced toward Carter’s tall, rigid silhouette by the window. “But what?”

Carter’s voice darkened. “Everything that’s happened lately… she’s always one step ahead. It’s as if she already knew what Nate was planning. No matter how sharp she is… she’s not clairvoyant.”

Julliard immediately caught the meaning. “You’re thinking… someone tipped her off?”

Carter didn’t respond, but the thoughtful crease between his brows deepened.

Julliard frowned, his tone turning serious. “If that’s the case… besides Nate, the only one left is… Kelly.” 2

Carter’s expression tightened. His first instinct was to reject it. “Impossible.”

Julliard took a slow sip of tea, unfazed. “It does feel strange… like something’s off everywhere. The chances that someone fed her information are way too high to ignore. Maybe it wasn’t intentional. Maybe Kelly just let something slip… and Sharon figured it out.”

His eyes flicked to Carter’s face, watching carefully. “Or maybe… Kelly’s too kind-hearted. Maybe she thought Nate had crossed the line… and when she couldn’t talk him out of it, she gave Sharon a little nudge.” 2

For a moment, he said nothing, but then his brow furrowed further, a hint of confusion in his voice. “But… come to think of it… isn’t it strange, Carter? What exactly is between Nate and Sharon? Why’s he so dead set on going after her like this?”

Carter was silent for a moment. “Maybe… it’s because of Kelly. Some kind of misunderstanding.”

Julliard gave him a sharp look. “That’s exactly what’s strange. If it were about Kelly… you and Sharon are already divorced. What’s his reason for still going after her?”

Carter caught the undertone in his words immediately. “Say it, Julliard. Whatever it is, just say it.”

Julliard stared at him. “Carter, the three of us grew up together. We’re like brothers. I shouldn’t be meddling, but I don’t want to see this tear us apart until we’re strangers to each other.”

He sighed. “Tell me honestly. Don’t you think… Nate has meddled too much in your marriage? He’s been pushing you toward

divorce from the start.

“Sharon is Theo’s mother. No matter what, you two shouldn’t have reached the point where you’re enemies like this.”

Carter’s gaze darkened. “What exactly are you trying to say?”

Julliard looked at him long and hard. “Carter… don’t you think… Nate’s focus on Sharon is… excessive? If he really liked Kelly as much as he claims, shouldn’t he want you and Sharon to stay together? Not tear you apart?” 1

Carter’s brow tensed.

Julliard pressed on. “Think about it. If it weren’t for Nate constantly pushing, would you have even divorced Sharon at all?”
