Chapter 30 Ms. Shelton’s Depression Is Fake
Elaine’s pupils suddenly widened. She rushed out of the closet and lunged at Thea. “You’re lying! That’s impossible! Mr. Atkinson is still alive! He can still donate his heart to my brother!”
The stepped aside, smoothly dodging her. She calmly pulled up a photo on her phone and held it in front of Elaine’s face.
“Here’s his death certificate. Take a good look. He died the day before yesterday–Sunday. Francis Atkinson, age 42. You remember all that, don’t you?” Elaine shook her head frantically. When she finally saw the photo clearly, she stumbled back in terror. “No way. That’s impossible”
Thea was worried she wouldn’t believe it. Depression patients were the least capable of handling shock. Now that she had been handed this chance, she knew she had to stimulate Elaine further
The called Reuben directly, and he quickly picked up. He knew Thea because of Skylar
Thea spoke right away. “Dr. Sutton, since the person who was going to donate his heart to Eric has passed, isn’t there any way to still use his heart for Eric?”
Reuben replied helplessly, “Ms. Lancelot, it’s not that we don’t want to help. If there was a way, we would’ve tried. Mr. Atkinson passed away three days ago. His heart simply can’t be used anymore.
Thea’s face was full of glosting, though her voice sounded full of regret. “Oh, what a pity, Can’t you try to find someone else?”
Reuben answered truthfully, “Finding one match was already a one–in–a–million chance. To find a second one–forgive me for being blunt–is nearly “impossible.”
If he hadn’t been considering the family’s feelings, he could have directly said that it was completely impossible.
Thea ended the call, smiling as she looked at Elaine, She listened to her ragged, panicked breaths.
–
She stepped closer, leaned in next to Elaine’s left ear, and whispered, “Tell me how did Mr. Atkinson just happen to die so suddenly? Maybe someone gave him a little help?”
Elaine could see that Thea was speaking, but she didn’t hear a thing.
She couldn’t hear out of her left ear. Before, her heating was just weaker than in the past. But now, even if someone were to speak right next to her left ear in a low voice, she would hear nothing.
Elaine’s trembling hands clenched tighter. “What did you say?” she asked.
Thea didn’t notice anything odd and thought that Elaine just couldn’t believe it.
There was no one else in the room, and she saw that Elaine’s phone was still on the nightstand. There was no way it could be recording
So, she decided to say it outright with a smug expression, “How could I ever let you get what you want? Mr. Atkinson was suffering from a terminal illness for a year. He was in such pain. So, I helped a little and sent him off to a better place sooner-
Before she even finished, Elaine completely lost control. She lunged forward and gripped Thea’s neck with both hands. “It was you!”
Thea staggered backward toward the door, letting out a strained laugh. “That’s right. It was me. So what? Do you think Sky will believe you? Do you have anyone to speak up for you? Elaine, people like you and your brother, with no power or skill, deserve to die! How dare you seduce my men? You’re just asking for it!”
Elaine’s eyes turned red with rage. “Thea, I’m going to kill you with my own hands!”
Elaine’s body was covered in injuries. Though she gripped Thea’s neck tightly, she didn’t have enough strength to completely restrain her.
Thea kept backing away, retreating all the way to the top of the staircase.
The smug look on her face suddenly shifted into terror and panic as she screamed, “Help.. Help me! Ms. Shelton is trying to kill me!!
She actually felt a bit regretful that Skylar wasn’t there. Otherwise, he could have seen for himself how Elaine had gone crazy and was trying to strangle her.
Elaine was completely out of control, yelling, “You killed my brother! You destroyed that Iseart!”
Thea lowered her voice, leaning close to Elaine. “So what if I did? He’s your brother. Even if someone finds another matching heart for him, I can just destroy it again. Honestly, I should thank Sky for helping stall things long enough for me to act.”
Hearing the noise, the malds downstairs rushed up, shouting, “Ms. Shelton, please calm down! Don’t do anything foolish!”
Thea stopped provoking Elaine, switching instantly to a terrified, trembling act. “Help me! Please, someone help me!”
Elaine’s mind was filled with Thea’s words. “Even if someone finds another matching heart, I can still destroy it.”
Marcus had spent a whole year, going to incredible lengths, to find that heart. It was all her. It was all Thea!
Elaine couldn’t control herself anymore. Her entire mind and body were consumed with hatred as she squeezed Thea’s neck. “I’ll kill you right now with my own hands!”
Thea suddenly threw herself backward. Her hand, which looked like it was reaching for Elaine, actually pushed Elaine’s hands away. With a shrill scresin, Thea tumbled down the stairs.
She fell straight back, her head slamming hard against the steps. Although she didn’t roll all the way to the bottom thanks to the maids catching her in time, blood quickly gushed from her head.
Then whimpered in pain. “It hurts. My head hurts so much. Help me. I want to see Sky!”
Frank had just come in from the outside. Seeing the chaotic scene, he immediately shouted, “Quick Call Mr. Frey! Get Ms. Lancelot to the hospital!” Elaine looked dazedly at Thea lying on the ground. A sharp ringing filled her ear again.
The ringing was so loud that she couldn’t hear anything else. She even started to question whether she had actually pushed Thea
She hated Thes so much, but she didn’t think she had pushed her just now.
Her whole body shook violently. Amid the chaos downstairs, she stumbled back to the bedroom, terrified. She hid back in the wardrobe, gripping the door tightly shut.
What about Eric? What was she going to do?
The month she had spent tortured in prison and all the torment Skylar had inflicted on her because of his trust in Thea replayed vividly in her mind. Elaine’s mind was left with nothing but overwhelming fear and despair.
Thea didn’t come out of the emergency room until noon. Head injuries were extremely dangerous. Even a light blow could be fatal if one was unlucky. Therefore, the doctors didn’t dare slack off for a second, especially since she was Skylar’s woman. They examined her thoroughly and only transferred her to a regular ward after confirming she was out of danger.
Skylar finally let out a sigh of relief once Thea was safe. Only then did he think to question what had happened.
A maid who had followed along immediately recounted the entire incident of Elaine pushing Thea down the stairs.
No one knew what Thea had said to Elaine beforehand. The maids at Stonebrook Estate only saw Elaine strangling Thea at the top of the stairs. Then, Thea lost her balance and rolled down the stairs after a struggle.
Skylar asked in a low voice, “Where’s Elaine now?”
Frank replied, “Sir, Ms. Shelton has been hiding in her bedroom wardrobe ever since Ms. Lancelot fell. She won’t come out no matter what we say. Maybe
she’s frightened, too.”
Skylar frowned. “Elaine has depression. I didn’t expect her emotions to be so unstable. Thea, she hurt you this time. You must’ve suffered. Focus on recovering first. As for her psychological issues, I’ll have the doctor check her thoroughly.”
He truly hadn’t expected Elaine’s mental condition to be this severe. Looking back, he should’ve warned Thee not to see her. Thea understood exactly what he meant. He was going to blame everything on Elaine’s depression and not hold her accountable. So, she had fallen down the stairs for nothing?
Under the blanket, Thea clenched her hands tightly. She subtly exchanged a glance with the department head who had come in.
The department head immediately stepped forward, hesitating as he said, “Mr. Frey, after another review, we found that Ms. Shelton doesn’t actually have depression or any merital illness. Dr. Middleton made an error in the previous assessment. We’ve temporarily suspended him.”
